Happy New Year everyone! Today is Friday, January 10^th and it is ________________ outside today.

Did you enjoy your vacation? I’m sure you did. It is always good to have fun and relax. How did you have a fun and relax? Did you go shopping? Did you go skiing or did you watch a movie with family or friends. These are all fun and relaxing things but did you do anything else like make osechi with your family or did you get otoshidama? Or did you eat ozoni?

Let’s learn to say these things in English. Osechi is New Year’s food.

Otoshidama is a custom of giving money to children on New Year’s Day.

And ozoni is a soup containing rice cakes or mochi. By the way did you know that zoni is different in Eastern Japan and Western Japan? In Eastern Japan the soup is clear while in Western Japan the soup is miso.
