アメリカ・サンディエゴのスクール・ディストリクトにある Grossmont High Schoolに1年留学中の本校高校1年のみかさんのupdated reportです。

Hi, I’m Mica Tahara.  I would like to update my report on the exchange at Grossmont High School.  I will be living in San Diego for 1 year.  Recently, there were a lot of events.  First of all, I would like to share my homecomings.  I went to my own school homecoming, and also I joined another homecoming at my friend’s school.

Homecoming is where people dress up formally and dance. It was really fun going to the homecoming dances. Actually, I had a fun time with all of my friends from both schools.

As for some other school activities, I also do 12 hours of community service hours every week. For 6 hours I do a political campaign where I walk around neighborhoods and engage with voters, get endorsements, make phone calls, collect and analyze data etc. They are very interesting and inspiring to me.

For the other 6 hours, I volunteer for the church that I go to. I help prepare and serve dinner Wednesdays nights, and I take orders and make drinks at the cafe every Sunday mornings.

Likewise, I go to a youth group at the church every Wednesday where I have a fun time with my friends from different schools learning about God and playing games.

In addition to that, I have lacrosse preseason practice twice a week at school.  I will have its practice every day from February. I am very busy here with school, volunteering, lacrosse and church every single day, but I am able to manage my time and maintain my grades.

こんにちは、田原みかです。私は、今、アメリカのカルフォルニア州、サンディエゴに一年留学しています。最近、色んなイベントがありました。特に、日本にはないスクール・カルチャーであるホームカミング。私は、自分の学校のホームカミングと友達の学校のホームカミングに行きました。ホームカミングではドレスアップして、ダンスに行きます。両方の学校の友達と楽しみました。

また、私は学校の活動の他、毎週12時間のボランティアをしています。6時間は政治のキャンペーンです。色んなneighborhoodでvoterと接して、署名をもらったり、電話をして、データを集めて、分析したりしています。もう6時間は、行っている教会でボランティアをしています。毎週水曜日のディナーを作るのと、そこに来る200人もの人たちにそれをサーブします。さらには、日曜日の朝にカフェで注文を受けて、飲み物をつくります。たくさんの人が来るので忙しいです。

その他、毎週水曜日に教会のyouth groupで違う学校の友達とレッスンを聞いて、ゲームをしたりして楽しんでいます。その他には、学校でラクロスのpre seasonを週に2回やっています。2月に入ったら、練習が毎日あります。学校、ボランティア、ラクロスと教会で毎週とても忙しいですが、時間を管理して、成績を保持しています。

このように日本の高校では体験できないことがたくさんあり、充実した毎日です。レポート、シェアしていただき、ありがとうございます。
