From Canada, Victoria – Report from Riko S. at Stellys Secondary School 0224.2020.

Hello everyone! I’m Riko Saito, studying abroad at Stellys Secondary School in Victoria, Canada. The time has passed so fast, so I can’t believe that I have already spent 5 months in Canada!

By the way, I had two big events in January and February, 2020.  For one thing, I performed a Japanese traditional dance (Nichibu) in my school.  For the other thing, I finished the musical show which I had been practicing since September. Today, I’m going to tell you about the performance of Nichibu dance.

This “Nichibu” performance is one of the special experiences in my life. I performed “ Sakura Sakura” with my friends who are from Germany, China and Japan. It was the end of the semester 1, so everyone was so slammed. Sometimes it was difficult for me to explain the dance to them, but they kept on following me. After the show, the audience told us a lot of compliments! Above all, I was really happy that some people recognized me because of this performance. What’s more they asked me to make another performance of Nichibu at another opportunity!

Actually, showing my Japanese traditional dance when I am here in Canada is one of my goals for study abroad.  However, I had thought it was difficult for me when I was in Japan.  But now I accomplished it and I’m able to feel confident of myself.

こんにちは、カナダのStellys Secondary Schoolに一年留学中の齊藤莉子です。カナダに来て、あっという間に５カ月が経ってしまいました！ところで、私の2020年は２つのビッグイベントによって始まりました！まず、１月に日本舞踊を学校で披露し、２月には９月から練習をしてきたミュージカルをついに終えることが出来ました。今回は日舞のショーについて書こうと思います。

この時期は一学期が終わる直前だったので、テストなども重なり、とても忙しかったですが、無事に「さくらさくら」をドイツ、中国、日本から来た友達と披露することが出来ました。なかなか上手く教えることが出来ない時もありましたが、みんな最後まで私についてきてくれて、かけがえのない思い出になりました。ショーが終わると、観客から沢山の歓声を受けました！そして何よりも嬉しかったことは、これをきっかけに私のことを覚えて下さった方から、他のショーでも日舞を披露しないかと誘われたことです！

日舞をカナダで披露することは留学中の目標でしたが、日本に居た時の私にとって、これを達成することはかなり難しいことだと思っていました。しかし、この経験により、今では自分に自信を得ることが出来ました。
