From New Zealand, Report from Mako O. at Taranaki Diocesan School for Girls 0225.2020

Hi, everyone!  I’m Mako Ono, an exchange student studying at Taranaki Diocesan School for Girls, in Taranaki, New Zealand.  In this report, I’m going to talk about the camp I participated in last week.

On the first day, we had an activity called “Mud run”, where we went into the mud and ran there. By the time we got to the place where the mud was, we went into the water and passed through the grass. I was soon tired. However, the children of New Zealand were really tough. I was surprised at their physical strength.

On the second day, we went into the bush. We walked through a forest where there were no roads without using a compass. It was fresh and exciting because I had never been involved in great nature like this. The chocolate cookies that the teacher gave me on the way were really delicious.

On the third day, we went to the beach and rode kayaks and boards. I rode kayak for the first time, but it was very fun. It was my first time to enter the sea wearing a life jacket or wet suit.

On the fourth day, we climbed the famous Mt. Taranaki in New Zealand. The view from the top of the mountain was really beautiful. There was a river where beautiful water flowed, too. On the night, I went to a tent and slept. We went to the beach for dinner and made our own ramen and ate it. It was very hard and tough five days, but it was great for me that I was able to experience many things that I couldn’t do in Japan.

皆さん、こんにちは！　ニュージーランドのタラナキ・ダイオシサン・スクールに留学中の小野茉子です。今回は、先週参加したキャンプについてお話します。

まず初日は、｢マッドラン｣という泥の中に入るアクティビティをしました。泥がある場所にたどり着くまでに水の中に入ったり、草むらの中を通りました。私はすぐに疲れてしまいましたが、ニュージーランドの子達は本当に体力がすごくて驚きました。

2日目は森の中に行きました。自分たちで方位磁針を使って道ではない森の中を歩いていきました。こんなにもたくさんの自然の中に入ったことはなかったので新鮮でした。途中で先生がくれたチョコレートのクッキーが本当に美味しかったです。

3日目は海に行ってカヤックやボードに乗りました。カヤックは初めて乗りましたがとても楽しかったです。ライフジャケットやウエットスーツを着て海に入るのは初めての体験でした。

4日目はニュージーランドで有名なタラナキ山に登りました。上から見る景色が本当に美しかったです。綺麗な水が流れている川もありました。この日の夜は班ごとに違う場所に行き、テントをはって寝ました。夜ご飯は海に行って自分たちでラーメンを作って食べました。

とても大変な5日間でしたが日本ではできないような体験を沢山することができました。最後までレポートを読んでくださりありがとうございました。
