1年留学のレポートを先に皆さんとシェアします！本校の特徴ある留学先の一つであるアイルランドのDundalk Grammar School に留学中のRikako さんのレポートです。

From Ireland, Report from Rikako Y. at Dundalk Grammar School

Hello everyone. I am Rikako Yasuda, studying in Dundalk Grammar school in Ireland.  There was first snow in Ireland in this winter. Irish snow was very light and powdery. Anyhow, in this month I had 4 events and I was able to spend very busy and full time.

The first event was a trade fair held in Craigavon, Northern Ireland.  Our team “Grow your own team” had done it before at the Christmas market in school.  At that time, we had sold the bottles of pesto, wreaths and herbs. So, this time we sold sunflower seeds and pots which were recyclable cups. I had a great time there, where Craigavon accent was little bit stronger than us. At last, we could get the prize for the owner. We were super happy. We will have another trade fair in the coming March. So, right now we are preparing for that.

The second event was Solar Panel Competition & YEA. Those competitions were about how to stop climate change as a student. I entered Solar Panel Competition by myself, and I entered YEA as a member of the green school. In Solar Panel Competition, my project is to make the recycle station. Students throw everything into a big black bin because our school does not have recycling systems.  So, everything at the rubbish disposal facility has been burnt, which results in global warming. Then, I decided to abolish the big black bin and set up the recycle station that divided into four parts. Plastic bottles and plastic forks, plastic packaging and cans, printed paper and dirty plates, etc. And I prepared a station for fruit and food scraps. Also, I hang a large signboard and show a large photograph in each category for people to understand easily.  Moreover, we gave presentations about recycle. It was difficult to do by myself, but when I made it, I really happy and I want to brush up more this system.  However, in YEA we made the bord game where we think about climate change. Yesterday our project passed the first stage round.  It took us long time to make them, so I was so happy that we could go to the semi-final stage next month.

The third event was our ski-trip in Italy. It was my first time to do skiing. But the instructor was super funny and kind. So, I really enjoyed that time, and also I could ski on the highest-level course there. The last day of this trip, we went to Verona. We went to the Colosseum, which was the second biggest in Italy.  In the building, I sang a song in the middle. The audience gave me a standing ovation. It became fantastic memory. Also, Italian food was amazing especially pizza. It was the best trip I have ever had.

The last event was my second work experience. I worked in Treat & Green café. This café provided healthy organic food and coffee. I was supposed to learn how to make coffee, but unfortunately coffee machine was broken this week. So, I couldn’t learn it. But my supervisor taught me how to make pizza, salad and wrap and hot chocolate. Also, I made a sample every day.  The main purpose of the sample is that if someone gets food poisoning, we can check our samples for micro-organisms. The workers were so kind and they taught everything for me to understand easily.　It became good experience to me. Moreover, the last day of the work experience, I went to UNICEF work shop in Dublin. We discussed about SDGs and planned what we should do in school. I remained affected by the same age students. I think many students are thinking that stopping climate change is irrelevant to us because it looks like too big issue and unreality. But I believe it is not and a student can change the planet from the small thing such as recycling, taking care of waste electricity. So, I want to expand about it in my school.

みなさんこんにちは。アイルランドのダンドーク・グラマー・スクールに留学している安田理花子です。今月初めての雪が降りました。アイルランドの雪は日本の水を含んでいるタイプとは異なり、とても軽くさらさらしています。さて。今月は４つのイベントがありとても忙しく充実できた一ヶ月でした。

初めのイベントはCraigavonという北アイルランドで行われたtrade fairです。私たちGrow your ownチームは過去に学校のクリスマス・マーケットでも行いました。その時はペストとリースとハーブを売ったので今回はひまわりの種と簡単に育てられるポットに入ったお花を売りました。そのポットは飲み口が欠けてもう使えないコップを再利用しました。また、この地域の人のアクセントは、イギリスよりで強くて普段聞こえない音だったので新鮮でした。このイベントの最後に主催者の方から賞をいただけました。嬉しかったです。次の3月にもtrade fairがあるので今準備をしています。楽しみです。

二つ目のイベントはSolar panel competitionとYEAです。これらの大会は生徒ができる地球温暖化対策についてです。私はSolar panelは個人でYEAは、Green schoolの一員として出しました。Solar panel では学校にrecycle stationをつくる企画を考えました。私の学校は分別システムがないため、何でもかんでも生徒は大きい黒いごみ箱に投げ入れていました。そのためリサイクルできるゴミまでも無駄に燃やされ地球温暖化を促進させていました。そこで私はまず大きい黒いごみ箱を廃止して、四つからなるrecycle station を作りました。文ではなく写真を大きく提示して分かりやすくしました。またリサイクルや地球温暖化についてのプレゼンテーションを各クラスにしにいきました。現段階でうまく機能していない部分もあるので今後可能な限りブラッシュアップしていきます。またYEAのほうでは地球温暖化に関するボードゲームを作りました。つい昨日第一次審査を通過できたことがわかりました。試行錯誤して作ったので結果に出て嬉しかったです。3月にECOUNESCOでプレゼンテーションをする審査があるので頑張りたいと思います。

3つ目はイタリアスキー旅行です。今回が初めてのスキーだったのですが、インストラクターがとても面白く親切だったので、楽しむことができました。また一番高いレベルのコースも滑ることができました。旅の最終日にはVeronaに行きました。私たちはイタリアで二番目に大きいコロッセオに行きました。その一人真ん中で歌う機会を先生が作ってくださりました。緊張しましたが響いている感じが気持ちよく最後は観光客のみなさんからスタンディングオベーションをいただけました。とっても良い思い出になりました。イタリアンのなかでも特にピザが美味しかったです。今までで一番の旅行になりました

最後のイベントはwork experienceです。今回、私はTreat & Green caféで働きました。このカフェは健康的でオーガニックな食べ物とコーヒーなどを提供していました。私はコーヒーの作り方を学ぶ予定でしたが、今週は不幸にもコーヒーマシーンが壊れていて教わることができませんでした。しかし店長がピザやサラダ、ラップ、ココアの作り方を教えてくださりました。

また私は毎日サンプルを作りました。サンプルはもしお客様が食中毒を訴えてきたときに、その時提供したものを検査に出すためのものです。店員さんがすべてわかりやすく教えてくれました。とても良い経験となりました。さらに最終日にはダブリンにあるUNICEFのワークショップに参加しました。私たちはSDGs Goalについて話し合い学校でどんな活動ができるか考えました。私は同年代の生徒さんに刺激を受けました。私は多くの生徒は地球温暖化について、あまりにも壮大で現実味のない問題なため、考えていないと思います。しかしそれは違うと思います。生徒でも地球温暖化を止めることは可能だと思います。リサイクルするだとか電気を無駄遣いしないといった身近なところから始められると思います。私は今後生徒一人ひとりがこの問題を考えられるように広めていきたいです。
