Another updated one-year exchange program report has come to us from Dublin in Ireland. And yet the world moves!  Here we go!

Hello everyone! I’m K.M. and I’m an international exchange student studying at Sutton Park School in Dublin, Ireland. It’s my great pleasure if you could read the following report till the end.

First of all, I’ll tell you about my work experience, which is officially embedded in secondary school education curriculum in Ireland.  It is called “Transitional Year”.   Generally, students go to each work experience placement where they want to work and study through real job experience for 2 weeks.  But now it’s almost impossible to do that due to pandemic of Covid-19. Especially in case for me, I would like to have nursing work experience, but there are patients infected with coronavirus in a hospital, so I can’t achieve my hope.

Also, I found the work experience of Ireland quite different from that of Otsuma Nakano. In Ireland, students have to make a CV and cover letter, and find work their own work experience places by themselves.  Therefore, it’s really meaningful that they can work and learn in ideal workplaces for each student.

I’m doing work experience of “look into Law” remotely.  In this project, I study about bar of Ireland and I visit some courts in Ireland and so on. I discuss this project with my school teacher and students who take the same project on every Tuesday.

Second, I would like to introduce two cats in my house. The cats are female. They are so lovely. Tortoiseshell cat is very friendly, and I often play with the cat.  The other cat is calico cat. She is very shy and sensitive.

Finally, I have learned that how to make meat ball pasta with tomato sauce.  It was hard to cook meat ball. But I managed to make it. It was pretty tasty.

皆さん、こんにちは！私は現在、アイルランド、ダブリンにあるサットンパークスクールに1年留学中のK.M.です。今回のレポートも、最後まで読んでいただけると嬉しいです。

始めに、アイルランドの中等教育カリキュラムの特徴であるトランジションイヤーの職業体験について紹介します。 一般的に、学生はそれぞれの学びたい職場体験の場所に行き、勉強します。 しかし、今年はCovid-19のパンデミックのため、対面で行うのがほとんど不可能な状態です。 特に私の場合は、ナース体験をしたかったのですが、病院には、コロナ・ウイルスに感染してしまった患者さんがいらっしゃったり、未だにコロナの状況はよくならない一方なので、理想の職業体験場を見つけるのが困難でした。

また、アイルランドと大妻中野で行った職業体験には異なる点が多々ありました。 アイルランドでは、学生はまず履歴書とカバーレターを作成します。そして、職業体験をする場所も自分自身で探さなければいけません。ですから、生徒一人一人にとって理想的な職種で働き、学ぶことができるというのはとても良い点です。

私は現在、アイルランドの法廷や弁護士に関する職業体験を、リモートに形でしています。 このプロジェクトでは、アイルランドの弁護士について勉強したり、アイルランドの裁判所などを学んだり、リモートで見学することができます。 そして、このプロジェクトについて、毎週火曜日に同じプロジェクトを受講する学校の先生や生徒と話し合います。

次に、私のホストファミリーが飼っている2匹の猫を紹介したいと思います。 猫は2匹いるのですが、どちらとも女の子で、とてもかわいらしいです。まだら模様の猫はとてもフレンドリーで、よく一緒に遊んでいます。　もう1匹の猫は三毛猫です。 彼女はとても恥ずかしがり屋で敏感ですが、毎日かわいがっています。

最後に、今月は、ホストマザーからミートボールトマトパスタの作り方を教わりました。 ミートボールを焼くのが大変でしたが、同じ家に住んでいるロシアからの留学生の子と協力しながら作ったので、楽しかったです。味はとても美味しかったです。
