アメリカ、カナダはいよいよ学年末。Happy summer and holidays の時となりました。大妻中野の留学生たちも学年末と帰国の準備です。アメリカとカナダからの留学レポートをどうぞ。

As Otsuma Nakano exchange students are now approaching to the end of the academic year,  they are busy to make preparation for getting back to Japan with great memories.  Now, here are updated study abroad reports from Oregon, America and Langley Canada.   Hope to enjoy reading!

From Oregon, America,

Hi! I’m M.C., an exchange student of Westside Christian High School in Oregon. It’s May and I already miss it here, because I have to go back to Japan in June. I want to challenge things which I never tried to do before. Track & Field season is over and I’m glad I have time for studying but I kind of miss it.

Firstly, I want to talk about our last meet.  This meet is called District. In this meet, we have a limit for entry for each event. So I’m so glad I could go not only Javelin but also the 1500m. Friday was Javelin, Saturday was 1500m, so I joined all day. 　In javelin, I had the chance for practice only with me and the coach the day before the meet and 3 days before the meet. It helped a lot with my confidence for my javelin. In the practice, I could throw farther than my PR, so I was not really nervous at the meet. And I could achieve my new PR in the meet.

But on the next day, I was so nervous, because I couldn’t do my best in the last cross country meet in the fall and I was so disappointed. My friends wrote “Keep going” on my arm, and my coach and friends gave me advice.  It was so helpful and as a result, I did RR and I ran 12 seconds faster than my last PR, so I stood on the podium.  Also, I met a friend who is from Germany and going to a different school in Oregon. So I said goodbye, because she is also an exchange student and she will go back to Germany in June. That’s so sad, but I’m so happy I made friends across the world, and saw many cultures, not only America.

Along with that,  I want to talk about studying. We are reading a book named Between Shades of Gray. It’s about a family and people during world war 2 who are sent to Lithuania from Russia. They have to work, and live there. This book includes a little bit including romance. In the class, we have a quiz in each of 10 chapters, and I am worried that I can read that fast. But this book is so good and I couldn’t stop reading. So I finished in 3 days. I didn’t expect to find a good book in world history class, so I am so happy that I read this. I think I will read this again, because in the quiz, there are specific questions about characters and stories, and I am excited about this. From this, I bought new books in a bookstore.   I’m not read it yet, because I have to read a required book in English class, but I am looking forward to reading it. Incidentally, there are many Manga in the bookstore. I found my favorite manga in the store, so I bought it.

こんにちは。アメリカのオレゴンにあるWestside Christian High School に一年留学中のM.Cです。５月に入り、帰るまで１ヶ月となってしまいました。最後の一ヶ月、やり残したことに挑戦し、悔いの無いように過ごしたいです。部活で選んでいたTrack & Field では最後の大会を終え、部活の無い日常に戻りました。勉強に取り組めたり、週末の時間が増えたことは嬉しいですが少し悲しくもあります。

まずは最後の大会について書きます。 この大会はDistrictと呼ばれ、種目ごとに上位３名のみしか出場することができないため、やり投げと１５００ｍ走のどちらとも出場できた事がすごく嬉しかったです。金曜日はやり投げ、土曜日は１５００ｍだったため２日間とも参加しました。　やり投げでは、試合の３日前と前日の練習でコーチと１対１で練習できる機会があり大きく自信をつけることができました。練習でも自己ベストよりも遠くに投げられることが続いたため、大会でもあまり緊張せずに自己ベストを更新できました。

しかし翌日の１５００ｍでは、驚くくらいに緊張していました。春のスポーツであったCross Countryの最後の大会では全力を出し切ることが出来ずに悔しい思いをしたためです。レース前には友達が腕に「keep going」と書いてくれたり、アドバイスをしてくれたりして凄く励みになった結果、自己ベストを１２秒更新し、表彰台にも乗ることが出来ました。また１，２ヶ月ほど前の大会がきっかけで仲良くなった違う学校に在籍しているドイツからの留学生とまた会うことが出来ましたが、お互い６月にアメリカを離れてしまうため会うのが最後になるかもしれないということで別れの挨拶をしました。凄く悲しいですが、いつかドイツにも行ってみたいなと思い、留学を通してアメリカだけでなく他の国の文化に触れることが出来たのを嬉しく思います。

勉強の話もしようと思います。今世界史の授業ではBetween Shades of Grayという本を読んでいます。これは第二次世界大戦のときの家族の物語で、リトアニアからロシアに送られ労働、生活をする中で少しのロマンスが含まれています。クラスでは１０章ごとにテストがあり、最初はそのペースで読めるか少し不安でした。しかし読んでみると凄く面白く、早く結末が知りたいと思い３日で読み切ってしまいました。世界史の授業でこんなに面白い本に出会えると想像していなかったので凄く嬉しかったです。テストでは凄く細かい内容が聞かれるためもう一度読み直そうと思っていますが、更に細かい発見があるかもしれないので楽しみです。これをきっかけに英語の本の面白さを知り、試しに本屋さんで本をかってみました。英語のクラスではThe Great Gatsbyを読まなくてはいけないということもあり、まだ新しく買った本は読めていませんが、すごく楽しみです。ちなみにアメリカの本屋さんには漫画もたくさんあり、日本と同じように沢山の品揃えがありました。お気に入りの漫画の英語版もあり、つい買ってしまいました。

Hi, everyone. I’m S.O. and studying English in Canada. First, I’m sorry that I wrote my report late.   In April, I could see beautiful cherry blossoms everywhere, so I felt Japan in Canada lol   In Canada, there was “Sakura Festival” in Vancouver. I visited there with my friend. I had a wonderful time there. We had “Okonomiyaki” and crepe, and we took too many pictures lol That was special memory.

Also, I visited Karaoke with my best friends. There were two Japanese, and one Korean, we sang Korean songs and Japanese songs as well. After that we had cheese hot dog and just my Korean friend had bubble tea. When we visited the bubble tea shop, there was UNO which is a card game, so we played it 6 times because I lost all games, and I wanted to win. However, I could not win. That’s so sad, isn’t that?

That’s all for April. Now, I have two months until I’ll go back to Japan. That’s so sad, but I’ll keep doing my best. Thank you for reading to the end. See you next time!

みなさんこんにちは！ カナダのバーナビーで1年留学中のS.O.です。最初に4月のレポート遅れたことすみません。4月になりカナダでは桜をどこでも見ることができて、日本を感じられます。カナダでも桜祭りというものがおこなわれ、友達と行きました。そこではクレープやお好み焼きを食べたり、写真をたくさんとって楽しみました。

また親友たちとカラオケに行きました。2人が日本人で1人が韓国人なのでどちらの曲も歌って楽しみました。あとはチーズハットクを食べたり、韓国人の子はバブルティーを食べました。バブルティーの店にはUNOがあったので6回遊びましたが私は全部負けてしまいました。

これで4月のレポートとなります。日本に帰るまで2ヶ月しかありませんが、最後まで頑張ります。　最後まで読んで頂きありがとうございます。また次回、レポートでお会いしましょう。
