From America_Days at Pleasant Hill HS_Nov. 2015

Now here comes the monthly report from Oregon, USA.  Ellie Goto, a 10^th grader of Otsuma Nakano High School, who is attending Pleasant Hill High School in Oregon as an exchange student for a year to study, tells you what’s going on there.

Howdy guys:-)

It's below 50 ℉ everyday… so freezing!!!!!

How's the weather in Japan?  In Oregon, which is one of the western states of USA, they have a lot of rain in winter especially unlike Japan.  But, it's not a humid type of rain here.  I call it “dry rain.”

We have Thanksgiving Holiday this month. It is a national holiday celebrated in Canada and the United States as the day when people give thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of another year passing by.  In the United States, people celebrate on the fourth Thursday in November.

For our Thanksgiving meal we had special food like turkey, potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie with families and gave thanks for what we have. Also most schools, government offices, businesses and other organizations are closed on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, called “Black Friday.”

Then I had only two days to go to school before Thanksgiving Day this week!!! Below is the picture of our Thanksgiving Day meal.

I want to share about another wonderful activity I did this month! I went to visit Portland and shopped at the WOOD BURN premium outlets. In the morning, I hung out in Portland where there are many shops for us to go shopping. There were some awesome coffee shops. For example, Stump town coffee roasters, Blue Star donut+coffee and others. If you ever go to Portland, you should check out the two coffee shops! It was very relaxing to just walk around, but shopping at Pioneer place was fun too! WOOD BURN premium outlet in Woodburn near Portland is much larger shopping mall than Pioneer place.

Anyway, it is so unfortunate for me to feel like time flying like wind so fast here.  Oh, Christmas is now so close!!! In our choir class we're singing two Christmas songs. "All I want for Christmas is you" and "When Christmas Comes to Town".  Both of them make me excited and anxious for Christmas.

こんにちは！

こちらは毎日10度以下の日が続き、とても寒いです。日本の天気は如何でしょうか？西海岸のオレゴン州では、日本とは違い冬に雨が多いです。それに加え、日本のようなじめじめした雨ではありません。

さて、今月はサンクスギビングデー（感謝祭）がありました。カナダとアメリカの祝日の一つで、アメリカでは11月の第4木曜日に当たります。元々は、アメリカ大陸に渡った人々が自然のノウハウを教えてくれたネイティヴアメリカン達を招いて七面鳥や作物を食卓に開き、自然の恵みや友人に感謝したというのが起源とされています。

サンクスギビングデーとその翌日は学校や大抵の職場が休みになり、4連休となります。

私達は七面鳥を食べたり、ポテト料理やかぼちゃのパイなどを食べたりしました。以下がその写真です。

もう一つ、今月の素敵な出来事を紹介させて下さい！私はポートランドとウッドバーンに行ったのですが、とても素敵なお店がたくさんありました。特におしゃれなカフェがたくさんあり美味しいドーナツ屋さんでドーナツを買ってカフェラテを一緒に飲んだりととてもゆったりした時間を過ごしました。ポートランドはショッピングするのにもうってつけの場所ですが、街をただ歩くだけでもとてもリラックスできます。また、ポートランドから少し離れた場所にあるウッドバーンはとても大きなショッピングモールで、ここもショッピングをするのにはうってつけです。

ともかく、悲しいことにここでは時間が風のように過ぎ去っていきます。クリスマスももうすぐです。学校の合唱のクラスでもクリスマスソングを歌ったりして、クリスマスが待ちきれません！
