Canada Study Tour⑥（中2カナダ体験学習）

After their 3-night home-stay program, our students reunited this

morning. They and their host families said good-bye to each other

at the church, where they greeted their host family hesitantly, but

this time in a fond farewell.

In fact, Canada is a country of diversities, quite different from Japan.

Surely each student experienced different kinds of lifestyles respectively,

and we believe this would lead them to think things perspevtively.

Today, we restarted our program in UBC: our students had ESL classes

in the morning, and in the afternoon a lecture by a Japanese lady

working in Canada as a translator. Now they would feel it really close

to themselves how indispensable English would be for their future.

After the lecture, it was an activity time. We learned “Sing & Dance”

from Glee. Our students practiced singing a song in English. Then we

had Scavenger Hunting activity again in the evening, but this time not

in the hall, but in the campus. They are sure to go to bed easily tonight.

週末３泊のホームステイを終え、月曜日の朝集合場所でホストファミリーと

お別れをしました。バンクーバーは様々な人種の方が生活をしています。

ですので、生徒たちが日本で思い描いていた生活とは違って、バラエティに

富んだ体験をそれぞれがしてきました。それもまた、多様性を理解するという

グローバルな視点を持つのに役立ったことでしょう。

ホームステイとしては短い期間でしたが、涙ぐんだり、お別れのハグをしたりと、

別れを惜しむ姿が印象的でした。

今日はUBCに戻り、早速朝からESLのレッスンです。ホームステイの疲れで

少し眠そうな顔も見られましたが、授業は３～５人にバディがついて、さらに

先生もいるので一瞬たりとも寝てはいられません。

今日のテーマはSharing Opinionsでした。自分たちの好き嫌いを述べ、その

理由をはっきりと英語で述べるだけなのですが、バディと一緒に活動することで、

カナダの人たちが日常で使う単語や表現が生徒の口からも出てきました。

午後はカナダで通訳のお仕事をされている女性からお話をいただきました。

お話は日本語でしたが、途中バディの一人が話す英語の聞き取りに、講師の

方から「中２でこんなにわかるなんてすばらしい」とお褒めの言葉をいただきました。

講演後は「英語の効率的な勉強方法は？」などたくさんの質問も出てきました。

夜のプログラムはScavenger Huntingの屋外編です。

バディとチームを組んで、夜８時でも明るいカナダ、UBCの構内へグループごとに

活動をしに出かけました。
