From America_Study at University of Saint Joseph_13

Here comes the rain again in the morning on the last day for us to stay at University of Saint Joseph.  Today, we spent the greatest time being together with our language partners of USJ.  They are all excellent university students, who have been supporting, helping and guiding us with outstanding hospitality.   This liaison with the students of USJ is the most memorable and fantastic things in the life we have had in America.   Some of the USJ students helped Otsuma Nakano students with their summer homework on English or other subjects assigned by their teachers.

In the evening, the sky got clear. At the Friendship dinner, it was our great honor that Dr. Free, President of USJ, joined us and gave us a great message.  She was highly of Otsuma Nakano students because of their curiosity and brave.  It should be challenging for high school students to join American university with coming all the way from Tokyo to Hartford. This might be a step forward in your life and will be a big step in your future.

And then, Dr. Steely gave the certificate of completion of this program to each of us and shake hands with them.  After that we enjoyed this wonderful dinner and liaisons with USJ students.  They were hugging each other with crying because they didn’t want to leave here. USJ students and Otsuma Nakano students, all of us mixed together into fantastic relationships with each other.  

On behalf of Otsuma Nakano School Community, we would like to express sincere thanks to all of University of Saint Joseph for everything you have done to us.  Especially, millions of thanks go to the partner students from USJ.  Without you and your support, this program would not have gone so well.  

To wrap up this remark, we would like to conclude this study visit to University of Saint Joseph with referring to the words from the brochure of USJ Study Abroad Program.

“At USJ, students explore and expand their potential through personal attention in welcoming community that offers academically challenging programs to individuals who want to succeed and make a difference in society. “  

いよいよセント・ジョセフ大学短期留学の最終日となってしまいました。今日は、このプログラムですべてにわたって本校の生徒をサポートしてくれた学生たちと、思う存分、一緒に過ごして、楽しみました。彼女たち、パートナーは生活の面倒はもちろん、いろんなアドバイスをしてくれたりして、本当に素晴らしい時を過ごしました。彼女たちがいなければ、このプログラムはこんなにも充実したものにはならなかったでしょう。本当に感謝したいと思います。

夕方には雨も止み、晴れてきました。この日のフレンドシップ・ディナーでは、大学学長のDr. Rhona Free、人文学部長のDr. Wayne Steely、美術学科長のDr. Dorothy Keller, 人文学部教授のDr. Namcy Billias,私たちに素晴らしいダンスのレッスンをしてくれた Professor Susan. Murphy,　そして看護学教授のProfessor Terry Kinsey、そして何より、すべてにおいてこのプログラムで指導いただいた、国際プログラム・ディレクター Professor Jonathan. Gourlay,に参加いただきました。

フリー学長から、大妻中野の生徒に向けてメッセージがありました。「あなた方がこの大学にはるばる東京から来てくれたことをとてもうれしく、光栄に思います。このプログラムに参加を決意することは大きな決断だったと思います。私はその勇気に敬意を表します。この大学で過ごしたことは、あなた方の人生で新しい一歩だったと思いますし、あなた方の未来にとって大きな一歩になると確信しています。」

続いて、スティーリー人文学部長から生徒一人一人に修了証書が手渡され、しっかりと握手を交わしました。ディナーの後半は、USJの学生たちとの最後の交流です。涙を流しながら、ハグしあいます。皆、それぞれに笑って、泣いて、この2週間を振り返り、感動的なインタラクションになりました。きっと忘れられない思い出になります。

この場をおかりして、このUSJプログラムで本校の生徒をサポートいただいた皆様に心より御礼申し上げます。とりわけ、USJの学生たちに心から感謝を捧げたいと思います。

最後に、USJの国際プログラムの紹介にある言葉をお借りして、締めくくりとしたいと思います。
