From New Zealand Study Report on New Plymouth GHS_170327

Here comes a very moving and interesting report from New Zealand.  Naoka Yoshizawa shares with you all her very emotional and exciting time for her to spend with many local and international people including her friends from Japan. 

Hello. This is Naoka Yoshizawa. How have you been?  The weather is getting to be the one for Autumn and summer is already gone in New Plymouth.  This summer was not nice as much as I expected because of the weather.  As the end of this studying abroad program is coming as well, I can’t believe that I have already spent 11 months in New Zealand.  I should prepare for going back to Japan. I would like to share my busy last week and this week with you all.

On Tuesday last week, Ayaka, who was studying abroad with me in Term 2, and her sister visited us!!! It was amazing to see them again in New Plymouth. They stayed for 4 days in New Zealand. On Tuesday night, we had dinner at Teffrey’s house with Haruka and Shoka. We ate Nachos and it was great!  On Thursday, they went to town with NPGHS’ students and me!  We went to Centre City for shopping and got some Gelato.  On Friday, we had farewell dinner for them with some international students in NPGHS at the restaurant in town. We didn’t have enough time to spend time with them because they had flight at night on Friday. It was great opportunity to see each other for international girls in NPGHS and Ayaka. And I guess it was good that her sister experienced a lot of things even though it was short time. Hopefully I am sure that they enjoyed their time with friends in New Plymouth.

From Friday to Sunday last week, we had a big event in New Plymouth called WOMAD. It means “World Music, Art and Dance festival. There were a lot of groups of singers and dancers from New Zealand and other countries performing on the stage and there were a lot of various countries foods as well!!  I have been there because everyone told me to go and it will be good memory for me. The ticket was a little bit expensive but it was good. There is no event which is like WOMAD in Japan, so it was a quite new thing for me.

On Thursday this week, we had country walking at the lunch time. It was the event for international students in NPGHS to show their own cultures to all of the school.  We were wearing Yukata and had the national flag walking around the school.  A lot of students in school were interested in us because it looks very different from European culture. In NPGHS, there are many international students from a lot of countries and we are usually sharing our own cultures and how different they are, such as school lunch time and daily routines at the intervals or lunch time.  It is good for us that the school accept a lot of international students because we can learn not only that one country culture but also the other countries’ cultures sharing some of our experience about studying overseas.

I have 2 more weeks left to stay here. I just want to spend time actively as much as I can and spend time with friends and host family. I also must be ready for going back to Japan and changing my life style. I think this studying abroad will be my biggest and the most wonderful choice and experience for me. I’m thankful to all people who support me and take care of me and give me this opportunity. Especially for the teachers in Otsuma and NPGHS, my best friends and my family.

ニュープリマスでは夏が過ぎ去り、秋が来ています。今年の夏は私が考えていたよりも天気が良くなかったため、あまりよくありませんでした。そして、この留学も終わりに近づいています。私は、11か月もニュージーランドで過ごしているということが、信じられません。私は、日本に帰る準備しなければなりません。それでは、活気のある私の先週と今週の生活をシェアしたいと思います。

先週の火曜日にターム２で一緒に留学していた、岡田あやかさんと、妹がニュープリマスに遊びに来ました！ニュープリマスでまた会えたことはとても素晴らしかったです。二人は、4日間ニュージーランドに滞在していました。火曜日の夜にテフリーの家ではるかとしょうかと一緒に夕食を食べました。私たちは、ナチョスを食べました。とても美味しかったです。木曜日には、NPGHSの生徒と私でタウンに行きました。センターシティーで買い物をして、ジェラートを食べました。金曜日には、何人かのNPGHSのインターナショナルスチューデントと一緒にタウンにあるレストランでフェアウェルディナーを食べました。二人のフライト時間が金曜日の夜だったので、一緒に過ごすことができる時間が十分でなかったので残念です。NPGHSのインターナショナルスチューデントの生徒とあやかと会えたことは、とてもいい機会でした。とても短い時間だったけれど、あやかの妹はたくさんのことを経験できたと思います。二人がニュープリマスでの時間を楽しんだと願っています。

金曜日から先週の日曜日まで、ニュープリマスではWOMADと呼ばれる大きなイベントがありました。WOMADとは「世界のミュージック・芸術・ダンスの祭典」という意味です。ニュージーランドやほかの国からの歌手やダンサーたちがステージでパフォーマンスしていました。また、たくさんの国のご飯もありました。みんなが私にそのイベントに行くように言ったので、私はそのイベントに行ったのですが、そのイベントは私にとって良い思い出になりました。チケットは少し高かったのですが、イベントは良かったです。WOMADのようなイベントは日本にないので、私にとって新鮮でした。

今週の木曜日には、お昼ごはんの時間に、カントリーウォーキングがありました。このイベントはインターナショナルスチューデントがそれぞれの国を学校へ見せるというイベントでした。私たちは、浴衣や国旗を持って、学校の周りを歩きました。ヨーロッパの文化からの違いによって、学校ではたくさんの生徒が興味を持っていました。NPGHSではたくさんのたくさんの国から来ているインターナショナルスチューデントがいて、それぞれの国の文化（たとえば、ランチタイムや1日のルーティンの違いなど）をインターバルの時間やランチタイムの時間にいつもシェアしています。学校がたくさんのインターナショナルスチューデントを受け入れているのは、私たちにとって、とてもいいことです。なぜなら、私たちはほかの国の文化をシェアできるだけでなく、ほかの国の文化を私たちが海外で経験してきたことをシェアすることができるからです。

私は、ニュープリマスを飛び立つまであと2週間しかありません。私は、友達やホストファミリーとできるだけ多くの時間を積極的に過ごしたいです。また、日本に帰る準備をすることと、生活スタイルを変えなければなりません。この留学は私にとって、最も大きく、最も素晴らしい選択・経験となると思います。私を支え、私に関わって下さったすべての方々、またこのような素晴らしい機会を下さったことに感謝いたします。特に大妻中野の先生方、NPGHSの先生方、友達、家族には感謝しています。
