From America – Study of the University of Saint Joseph #3
We welcomed a very cool and peaceful Saturday morning with cloudy sky. We have completely forgot such super hot and humid weather in Tokyo. In the morning, we had a good enough rest. So each student had their breakfast in their own pace individually. You don't have to worried about others. What matters is to be independent!
USJ language parter stundents took Otsuma Nakano students to the orientation campus tour, guiding each campus building to them. All of the facilities and buidlings look very academic, which makes us feel calm and a kind of dignified air. Especiallly, the library seems to attract Otsuma Nakano students' attention and interest, which looks very fancy and friendly. And also, it is full of some kinds of professionally academic atmosphere.
In the afternoon, they spend their time making use of these university facilities. Some went to the gym for exercise and the others were swimming and water-exercising at the pool with being guided by their USJ language partners. They can surely get very useful information to choose the university they will go to in their near future. The experience today they had will be one of the criteria when they make a decision about which university they will go. Now we are in the time when we should have enough knowledge about universities overseas in choosing which university would be the best for us to join.
Tomorrow, we have to wake up early in the morning for the day trip to Boston, which is famous for its tradition with many universities.
涼しい土曜日の朝になりました。曇りです。東京の蒸し暑さをすっかり忘れてしまいました。今朝は、ゆっくりの起床です。それぞれの時差への対応は個人差がありますから、朝食も自分のペースで食べてくださいねとの配慮です。日本の学校文化であの集団で一斉に食事をするということとは大きな文化の違いです。あくまで個人が主体の文化！
今日は、USJのランゲージパートナーの学生によるオリエンテーションとキャンパスツアーです。どの建物からも、アカデミックな落ち着いた雰囲気が漂います。特に大妻中野の生徒をひきつけたのは、図書館でした。とても上品な雰囲気で、入りやすい感じとともに、専門的な学術的な香りも漂う素晴らしい図書館です。日本ではなかなか体験できません。
午後は、それぞれ大学の施設は実際に利用してみました。大学生が使うジムやプールをさっそく活用して、大学生気分。ランゲージ・パートナーがガイドしてくれます。このアメリカの大学を体験したことは、彼女たちの近い将来の大学選びに大きな影響を与えることでしょう。大学を選ぶ目を複合的にしてくれます。日本の大学だけしか知らないで大学を選ぶ時代ではないことが、当たり前の意識になりつつあります。
さあ、明日は、学園都市、歴史の街、京都との姉妹都市でもあるボストンへ行きます！
