From America – Study at the University of Saint Joseph #6
Another beautiful fine weather day. In the morning, we had a special dance class organized by Ms. Susan Murphy, who has been in charge of the dance class of this program for Otsuma Nakano since 2015. The fancy auditorium stage of Bruyette Atheneum was the place for them to dance on, which is one of the outstanding buildings at USJ because the building is for all kinds of arts – fine art museum and concert / performance hall.
Ms. Susan Murphy is an excellent dance art teacher of University of Saint Joseph. She has many careers of instructing dance in many countries. Her dance lesson was amazingly well organized, which started with very creative icebreaking action. Everybody shouted her own name with a particular action which each wants to take. It looked much creative. And then they took their actions seamlessly, which made one impressive straight actions stream.
Today we highlighted the special art class with Dr. Dorothy Keller. Dr. Keller, who is a professor of art in University of Saint Joseph, took us to the Connecticut Science Center and instructed us its various science programs on ecology, human health, architecture, cosmology and meteorology. Our students enjoyed watching and touching these exhibitions which feature interesting science essence with the guidance from Dr. Dorothy Keller.
Dr. Dorothy Keller is Chairperson of Department of Fine Arts and Performing Art. She also gave lectures about many buildings around this Science Center. Dr. Keller is a super energetic professor. Also she is also a person of greatly extensive and remarkable knowledge of fine arts and architecture. Thanks to her outstanding explanation, we all were able to be impressed with science and architecture.
We all had a wonderful and interesting experience at the center.
今日も素晴らしい晴天となりました。日中は少し暑いくらいです。午前中は、特別ダンスクラス。担当は、このプログラムで2015年から担当しているスーザン・マーフィー先生です。ダンスのクラスは、この大学の美術館とコンサートホールの建物であるブリュイネット。とても重厚でアカデミックな雰囲気の建築です。
スーザン先生はさまざまな国でダンスを指導してきた経験のある先生。非常にクリエイティブなレッスンです。まさに一人一人の動きをグループ全体でのアートに作り上げるプロセスがこのダンスの指導です。
午後は、セントジョセフ大学の美術学の教授、ドロシー・ケラー先生の引率で、ハートフォードのダウンタウンにあるサイエンス・センターに行きました。ここは、環境、宇宙、気象、人体、建築、ロボット工学などさまざまなサイエンスを楽しんで、理解し、関心を深めることを目的とした多目的教育施設です。ケラー先生のガイダンスで、生徒たちはさまざまなサイエンスを体感して楽しみました。
ケラー先生は、美術学科長の先生。とてもエネルギッシュに説明をしてくれます。とにかくその知識に圧倒されます。コネティカット中の建築物の完成年やその様式がすべて頭に入っているよう。それが、歴史の中でどのような役割りを果たしているかもすべて知り尽くしているように思えます。
学問への情熱、好きであることの大切さ、これが何より大切なことをケラー先生の姿勢が伝えてくれました。
