From America – Study at the University of Saint Joseph #7
Cloudy sky there in the morning. So humid daybreak that severe afternoon thunder storms would be expected. Actually, in the late afternoon, the heavy rain came to us with occasional thunders. However, this heavy shower rain made us so refreshed that we can keep on feeling comfortable here. Very wet campus of USJ also looks very beautiful and peaceful.
In the morning, we had the second dance class in the Auditorium of Bruyette Atheneum with Ms. Susan Murphy. We completed to create our entire original dance performance in this class, which was full of creativity and imagination. Our students looked so satisfied with their own dance performance and Ms. Murphy was very highly of their dance.
Ms. Murphy always gave each students very postive feedback such as, "Beautiful!" " Very Nice!" "Excellent!" and "Fantastic!", which encouraged the students to do even better the next. Ms. Murphy wrapped up this dance class as follows:
"Have you ever made cookies? You can use cookie mold, which means every cookie you made is the completely same shape. However, dance performace is not cookie mold. Everyone has each own personality, which makes each own body movement and dance performance. What counts is that each dance is different. You should respect your own body movement and yourself. "
In the afternoon, we visited Yale University in New Haven. It took us about 1 hour to be there by bus ride. Yale University is one of the most prestigeous universities in the word, whose current ranking in the 2017 edtion of the best colleges and universities is No.3!! One of Otsuma Nakano graduates are now studying in Yale. Fortnately we had a great opportunity to see her in this Yale University, which inspired all of them, Otsuma Nakano students, to do what we aspire to be.
曇りの朝のハートフォード。湿度が高いので、午後から夕立、雷雨になるという予報になっています。実際、午後遅くから、雷を伴った激しい雨が降りました。でも、その後はおかげで涼しくなりました。
今日の午前中は、スーザン先生によるダンスのクラスの後編。ホールのステージです。最終的に音楽に合わせたダンスを皆で完成させました。創造性とイマジネーションがいっぱいのダンスです。大妻中野の生徒もスーザン先生もとても充実した気持ちでのフィニッシュとなりました。
スーザン先生は、常に大声で生徒に声をかけます。Beautiful!" " Very Nice!" "Excellent!" and "Fantastic!" このポジティブな声が次のパフォーマンスを向上させます。最後にスーザン先生はこう締めくくりました。「クッキーを作るときは、型抜きを使いますよね。ですから、皆、同じ形のクッキーができます。でもダンスはちがいます。一人一人の動きは当然違います。一人一人のパーソナリティが違うからです。それに自信を持ってください。違うことが重要なのです。その違いこそが、ダンスの創造性を作り上げていくのです。自分の体の動きに自信を持ってください。それは、自分に自信を持つことにそのものです。」
午後は、ニューヘイブンにあるイェール大学を訪問しました。バスで約1時間の距離です。ご存知の通り、イェール大学は、ハーバード大学、プリンストン大学とともにアイビー・リーグ8大学の一つであると同時に、全世界のトップ大学の一つです。本校の卒業生で、今、このイェール大学で勉強している人がいるので、その先輩とここで会うことができました。とても素晴らしいことです。この先輩に大きな刺激を受けたイェール大学の訪問となりました。
