From America – Study at the University of Saint Joseph #11
August 6th,
It’s been very quiet and peaceful at the USJ campus. You can hear many birds singing and see squirrels running around the tree. The weather is perfect with a lovely cool summer breeze coming. The landmark of USJ, McDonough Hall is shining against the clear blue sky in the day time and in the evening its view turns into a magnificent and solemn appearance. Just like a prestigeous chateau. Today Sunday, we have been relaxed all day long enjoying our each own holiday in spending time with their language partnersor taking pictures.
In the early afternoon, very special visitors came to see us from New Haven. She is one of Otsuma Nakano High School graduates, who is now currently studying at Yalte University with her USJ graduate friend. She joined this USJ program two years ago, which encouraged her to decide to go to a university in the United States. She actually made it to get back to Connecticut for going to Yale University. What a great job she did!
She gave a quick lecture to the current Otsuma Nakano students who are joining USJ for two weeks about the reason why she came to America. Additionally, she advised them how to do for making a decison on which university they will go to. All of them looked so impressed and inspired with their senior's statement based on her own experience. Her insightful message to the current high school students will drive them to study more for their future.
とても静かな日曜日のセントジョセフ大学のキャンパス。たくさんの鳥の鳴き声とキャンパスの芝生を走り回るリスがとても平和な穏やかな気持ちにさせてくれます。天気はパーフェクト。夏の気持ちよい青空と涼しい風。USJのランドマーク、マクドノー・ホールもきれいに輝いています。そして夜になると、その威厳ある姿がライトアップの中で浮かび上がりました。今日は日曜日。リラックスして、USJのパートナーと時間を過ごしました。
午後には、特別なゲストがニューヘイブンから私たちを訪ねてくれました。本校の卒業生です。今、イエール大学で勉強している先輩が、彼女の友達のUSJの卒業生と一緒に来てくれたのです。彼女は、2年前に大妻中野の高校生として、同じ様にこのUSJの夏期プログラムに参加して、それをきっかけに、高校卒業後にアメリカの大学進学を決めました。そして、こうして、2年後、ここコネティカットに戻ってきたのです。素晴らしいことです。
彼女は、現役の高校生のこのプログラムへの参加者にいろいろアドバイスをしてくれました。どのようにして、アメリカの大学に進学を決めるに至ったか。高校生のころはどんな勉強をしたのか。卒業生である彼女のアドバイスは、このプログラムに参加している生徒に大きな刺激となったようです。彼女とは皆、これから継続的に連絡をとってアドバイスをしてくれることになりました。アメリカでの卒業生のとの出会いもこのプログラムの大きな成果となるでしょう。
