Now it’s our great pleasure to share the kicking off report from mid-summer Australia, which is about one of Otsuma Nakano
exchange programs for Year of 2018. Nanaka Otaki, one of the new exchange students who are studying at St. Andrew’s Catholic College, our sister school in Australia, for Term 1, 2018. She seemed to be excited to experience Australia Day, 26 January, which is the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge their history. Her report is as follows:
Hello! This is Nanaka Otaki from Cairns in Australia. It’s been one week since I arrived here and I have already learned a lot. The weather here is unpredictable and it’s been raining on and off all week. Today, I would like to write about what I have experienced through my 1st week here in Cairns!
At school, I am studying with the year 10 students, which is very different from our studies in Otsuma Nakano High School. One of the class that surprised me was hospitality. Hospitality is a class where we learn how to cook, and to acquire hospitality management skills. I was surprised to see how a lot of students are already working.
My host family is a family of five and a dog. They’re very kind and fun! This weekend, we went to Cairns Hartley’s Crocodile Farm which is a farm with whole lots of animals. I got to hold a koala which I was really looking forward to and they were so so cute!!! I also touched a crocodile for the first time and it was quite nice than I had expected.
Also luckily, I got to celebrate Australia day which was on January 26th. It was an amazing experience getting to eat Australian meals with Australian music.

こんにちは！オーストラリアのケアンズに留学中の大瀧菜々花です。到着してから1週間が経ちもうすでに沢山のことを学びました。ケアンズの天気は予測不可能と言っていいほど雨が降ったりやんだりです。今日はこの1週間の中で私が経験したことを書こうと思います！
学校ではyear10の生徒たちと勉強をしていて、大妻中野との違いをたくさん発見します。私が驚いた中の一つは、ホスピタリティという授業です。家庭科のように料理をしたり、あるいはおもてなしのことも学んだりするそうです。私は、ほとんどの生徒がもうアルバイトをしていることに驚きました。
私のホストファミリーは五人家族で一匹の犬がいます。家族はとても明るく優しいです！週末にはケアンズハートリーズクロコダイルファームというたくさんの動物がいるところへ行きました。私がとても楽しみにしてたコアラを抱っこすることができました。とっっても可愛かったです！さらに、人生で初めてワニを触り、想像してたより気持ち悪くありませんでした。
また幸運ながら、1月26日にはオーストラリアデイを祝えました。オーストラリアの音楽を聴きながらオーストラリアの歴史的食べ物を食べ、とてもいい経験になりました。
