Another morning comes with beautiful summer blue sky and crisp cool air.  In the morning, we had a special literature discussion class with Professor Tami Fagan in Center of Academic Excellence room.  It is a very inspiring literature class, where we read a short story, called “The Story of An Hour” by Kate Chopin.

And then, we had another dance class in the Auditorium of Bruyette Athenaeum with Ms. Susan Murphy.  We completed to create our entire original dance performance in this class, which was full of creativity and imagination.  Our students looked so satisfied with their own dance performance and Ms. Murphy was very highly of their dance. Ms. Murphy always gave each student very positive feedback such as, "Beautiful!" " Very Nice!" "Excellent!" and " Fantastic!", which encouraged the students to do even better the next.   

In the afternoon, we had another special art class at the University Art Museum, called The Bruyette Athenaeum.  It was so precious time for us to see amazing masterpieces of Ukiyoe and Nishikie, by world famous Japanese artists such as Hiroshige, Toyokuni, and Hokusai.  We can understand how these Japanese traditional fine art masterpieces have been accepted in the world, especially in the western world like France and America.

Today was another super busy day for us to experience various art forms such as literature, dance performance and fine art, ukiyoes.

今日も気持ちのよいさわやかな夏の青空の朝を迎えました。今日も大学での授業が続きます。まず、この大学の図書館での授業、フェイガン教授のアメリカ文学の授業です。アメリカの女性作家の短編、The Story of An Hourを一緒に読みながら、作品を解釈していきます。分かりやすく、そしてパワフルなドラマを見ているような先生の説明と質問に圧倒されながらも、一緒に女性の立場を描いたこの小説を読んでいきました。

大きな机を囲んで、みんなで意見を出し合いながらの授業です。なかなか文学作品を英語で読み、解釈していくのはチャレンジングですが、素晴らしいエネルギッシュな先生と出会えてうれしかったようです。

次の授業は、昨日に続いて、スーザン先生の特別ダンスクラスです。ダンスのクラスはこの大学の劇場のステージで行っています。今日はダンスをより複雑な動きのダンスを完成させるとともに、グループでアイディアを出し合って、それぞれで自由に演技をしました。

ダンスで大切なことは何か。そして自分自身の体の動きについて、振り返り、自分を見つめてるリフレクションとダンスについて考えるアドバイスをいただきました。日本では体験できないアメリカならではダンスの授業から学ぶことは多かったと思います。

午後は、この大学の美術館（Art Museum）が所蔵している特に日本の作家、江戸時代の浮世絵、錦絵などの作家、広重、豊国、北斎などの東海道五十三次、富士三十六景などのシリーズの版画を開設してもらいながら、勉強していきました。

江戸時代の日本の浮世絵アーティストの作品が、どのようにヨーロッパ、特にフランスやアメリカで受け入れられ、そして今も極めて高く評価されているかを考える良い機会になりました。これも日本では体験できないことです。

今日は、アメリカ文学、アメリカのダンス、そして、アメリカで浮世絵や版画がどのように評価されているか、まさにアートの一日になりました。
