Friday morning started with the cloudy sky with humidity.  It is supposed to rain partly, says the weather forecast.  This is the typical summer weather in New England.

In the morning, another special class of education.  We made a visit to pre-elementary school attached to the University of Saint Joseph.  It is the School for Young Children, which provides various education programs for very young children. Otsuma Nakano students gave greetings to the kids there.  The teacher of the school prepared a globe to point out where Japan is located.  Otsuma Nakano students joined the young children there to play with. 

And then, we joined a special FLASH MOB FUN!! at crystal room conducted by USJ admission staff.  This is just dance, dance, dance!!  We all enjoyed super American style dance.  Yes, this is FLASH MOB!

In the afternoon, we made a visit to the Wadsworth Antheneum (Art Museum) in the downtown area of Hartford. The Wadsworth Antheneum is a great museum exhibiting historical architecture, selected works of traditional fine arts and modern / pop arts in America.  We all were impressed with these works of fine arts from Medieval European art works to modern contemporary master pieces. 

今朝は曇りの湿度がたっぷりの天気。雨の気配が濃厚でしたが、雲が切れて、青空と太陽の日中になりました。夏の青空で照りつける日差しはとても暑く感じましたが、夕方からは、ぐっと涼しくなり、さらに本格的な雨の予報になりました。週末、天気はどうでしょう。

今日の午前中は、セントジョセフ大学と提携している幼稚園（3歳～5歳の子を対象にした）、The School for Young Childrenを皆で訪問しました。優れた幼児教育の実践で非常に評判の高い学校です。セントジョセフ大学の学生もそこで幼児教育の実習をかねて働いています。

今日は、そこで、ここの子どもたちと一緒に遊ぶ授業です。最初は、恥ずかしそうにしていた本校の生徒もだんだんと打ち解けて、最後は時間を忘れて、一緒に皆で楽しそうに遊んでいました。アメリカの幼稚園では、皆が同じことを一斉にはしません。それぞれ自分で遊びたいことを自分で選んでやります。みんなバラバラです。そうした中から、自分の意志で何かをやることとソーシャル・スキルを学んでいきます。

そのあとは、セントジョセフ大学のアドミニストレーションのスタッフの指揮で、フラッシュ・モブを楽しみました。とにかく、ダンス、ダンス、ダンス！　アドミニストレーションのスタッフにとって大切なことは、大学の楽しさを伝えること。日本の大学の広報スタッフとは全く違ったスタイル。これも大切なソーシャル・スキルの一つです。

午後は、ハートフォードのダウンタウンにあるWadsworth Museumへ。アメリカで最も古い歴史ある美術館です。ヨーロッパの近代から現代の絵画、アメリカの建国当時から現在のポップアート、日本の美術作品も含めて、幅広いコレクションのある充実した美術館です。

アメリカの今と歴史がよくわかる美術館であると同時に、ヨーロッパの中世から近代までの重要な作品もたくさん所蔵しています。

最後はアメリカの小さな子供たちが、模写のために館内に入ってきました。アートがいかに子どもの教育に大きな位置を占めているかよくわかります。
