From New Zealand – 1 Year Exchange at Sacred Heart GC

Kia ora!  I’m Yuki Fushida, one-year-long exchange student, from Sacred Heart Girls College. Three months have passed since I came to New Zealand.  Recently, it’s so cold in New Zealand because it’s now winter here.  So, I’m missing Japanese summer so much.  The class level is more difficult than the last term.  It’s so hard for me. I’ll do my best and keep going.

I’ll write about my winter holiday, my English skill and about my opportunity to talk to the Otsuma girls who are now joining the 2 weeks home stay and study program.

I spent the holiday with my new host family very leisurely during winter vacation.  My host mother is very tender and hears my English well properly.  I made friends with my host sister and we watched a horror movie together.  In addition, I met a lot of relatives and my host mother’s friends.  I was busy, but it was good practice for my English I think.

Three new international students from Japan came for this semester, so occasions to speak Japanese have increased. I think it’s not good for improving my English skill. I decided to speak Japanese with them just music class.  In addition, recently I’m starting to read simple English books.

Last week, I spoke with the girls from my school, Otsuma Nakano.  I was so nervous thinking about my speech at that time for several months, because I remember being surprised at the last year's interview with my seniors. That senior 's English skill was high level, so I could not acquire it only by staying abroad for only 3 months.

My parents will stay in New Plymouth for just four days next week. I am very glad that my parents can share New Plymouth, my host family, my friends and teachers of my favorite place, New Plymouth.

I haven’t been missing Japan yet. But I’m looking forward to seeing my parents so much. So I will do my homework hard and lose weight in preparation for meeting my parents.

みなさんこんにちは、セイクレッド・ハート・ガールズ・カレッジに留学中の伏田有希です。ニュープリマスに来て、約3ヶ月経ちました。ニュープリマスは真冬で極寒の寒さが続いているので、日本の夏がとても恋しいです。また授業が日に日に難しくなってきて、とても大変です。

このレポートでは冬休みでの出来事と、英語力を上げるために最近始めた事と、2週間プログラムで来ている妻中生の子達との対談について書こうと思います。

冬休み中は新しいホストファミリーととてものんびり過ごしました。ホストマザーはとても優しくて、私のつたない英語をちゃんとしっかり聞いてくれます。ホストシスターとはとても仲良くなって、よく一緒にホラー映画を観ました。また親戚や友達と会うことが毎日あって、良い英語の練習になりました。

今学期は新しい3人の留学生が日本から来て、日本語を喋る機会が増えてしまいました。私はそれによって英語のスキルが下がるのは嫌なので、その子達と日本語で話すのは音楽の時間だけにしています。また最近は簡単な英語の本を読むように心がけています。

先週、2週間プログラムで来た妻中生の子達との対談がありました。私は数ヶ月前からその対談の事を考えて緊張していました。なぜかというと私は去年の先輩との対談でとても驚いた覚えがあるからです。その先輩の英語力は、たった3ヶ月海外に滞在しただけでは身に付かないくらいハイレベルなものでした。

来週から私の両親がニュープリマスに4日間だけ滞在します。私の大好きなニュープリマスの風景やホストファミリーや学校の友達や先生を両親にシェアできるのがとっても嬉しいです。まだ日本は恋しくないけれど、両親に会うのがとても楽しみです。それまでに痩せて日本の数学の問題集も進めて胸を張って会えるようにしようと思います。 私のレポートを読んでいただき、ありがとうございます。
