From Texas, America – A New Note from an Exchange Student at Marshall High School

Now a new report on her happy Thanksgiving experience reached us from Texas, the United States of America.  Mei, Suenaga, an exchange student at Marshall High School in Texas would like to share her happy report on what she experienced on the day of celebration with you all. Here we go!

Hello, there everyone!  I’m Mei Suenaga, an exchange student at Marshall High School in Texas, the United States of America.  Now I have been in Texas for three months!  How fast the time flies!!

Now I’ll talk about my experiences on Thanksgiving Day and its decoration.  As you know, Thanksgiving Day is a day for people in the US to give special thanks for what they get and it is a day when families get together to enjoy their family time with all the family members. Also, we don’t have schools for a whole week for this celebration.  In Japan, there is not an event like Thanksgiving.  This is a very good experience and it is very exciting for me!!

On the day, the relatives of my host family had a get together and everyone spent a pleasant time eating together. My host mom made a lot of luxurious food for this celebration. Everything was delicious!  So, I thought it would be great to have such a wonderful event in Japan.

At night, my host grandmother took me to the courthouse to see the decoration for this happy holiday season.  It was a pretty view.

The day after Thanksgiving, we did the Christmas tree decorations. The tree was really big and magnificent.  We put many ornaments on the Christmas tree. Those ornaments looked very cute. And then, we moved on to prepare a lot of decorative stuff for Christmas in the house. I’m very excited with the upcoming my first Christmas in America. I can’t wait for Christmas!!

皆さんこんにちは、アメリカのテキサス州のマーシャル・ハイスクールに交換留学している末永芽です。テキサス州に来てもう3カ月が経ちました。時間が経つのがとても早いです。

今日はThanksgiving dayと飾り付けをしたことについて書きたいと思います。Thanksgivingとは感謝をする日、家族や親戚友達が集まって食事を楽しむ日です。また、Thanksgivingのため私が通っている学校は1週間休みでした。当日、ホストファミリーの親戚の方も沢山来てホストマザーが作ってくれた豪華なご飯を一緒に食べて楽しい時間を過ごしました。日本ではこういった行事が無いのでThanksgiving day の様な素晴らしい行事が日本にもあればいいのになと思いました。

その日の夜、ホストグランドマザーが裁判所のデコレーションを見せにタウンに連れていってくれました。とても綺麗な景色でした。

Thanksgivingの次の日、クリスマスツリーの飾り付けをしました。クリスマスツリーはとても大きかったです。私たちは沢山のオーナメントをクリスマスツリーに付けました。オーナメントはどれもとても可愛かったです。他にも家の中に沢山の飾り付けをしました。アメリカでの初めてのクリスマスはとても楽しみです。クリスマスまで待ちきれません！
