Now from mid-summer Australia, a new report reached us, which is from Kanae Okada, an exchange student at St. Andrew’s Catholic College, Otsuma Nakano sister school there in Australia.

Hello! I’m Kanae Okada, an exchange student at St. Andrew’s Catholic College in Cairns, Australia. Here in Cairns, the rain season was finished, so it is hot every day. In this report I would like to write about the swimming carnival and what I did last Sunday.

Swimming carnival is a festival where you can participate in swimming races. At the venue of the carnival, there are 2 two pools and the larger one is for swimming races and the other smaller one is for participating in casual kinds of swimming races without prior registration. I didn’t participate in some races, but I swam in the smaller pool. It was very hot day, so cold water made me feel good. In the race some people were swimming with sports uniform and also some people swimming with a float ring.  E do not have this event at Otsuma Nakano, so it was really fun!

Last Sunday, my host family took me to a lake. We stopped at Kuranda, a lot of booths are there. And also, we stopped at a cheese and chocolate factory. At Kuranda I saw lot of beautiful stones and a small dinosaur museum.  At the cheese and chocolate factory, my host family bought me a passion fruit chocolate. It was so delicious! And also, there weree many animals such as sheep, goat, cow and chicken.

The lake was more beautiful than I thought. I was able to jump into a lake for the first time.  At the beginning, I was scary, but it was also fun! I talked with my host sister’s friend.  I could lead a full day.

こんにちは！オーストラリア、ケアンズに留学中の岡田佳奈枝です。オーストラリアは雨季も終わり、毎日暑い日が続いています。今回のレポートではスイミング・カーニバルと週末について書きたいと思います。

スイミング・カーニバルは挙手制でレースに参加することができます。プールは二つあり、大きい方のプールでレースをして、小さい方のプールでは飛び入り参加で泳ぐことができます。私はレースには参加しませんでしたが、小さい方のプールで泳ぐことができました。とても暑かったので、冷たい水が気持ちよかったです。レースでは、体操服で泳いでいたり、浮き輪をつけて泳いでる人がいたので驚きました。大妻中野にはない行事なのでとても楽しかったです！

先週の日曜日にはホストファミリーが湖に連れて行ってくれました。湖に行く途中にキュランダという小さい出店がたくさんあるところと、チーズとチョコレートの工場に寄りました。キュランダには、綺麗な石がたくさんあったり、小さい恐竜の博物館がありました。チーズとチョコレート工場では、私はパッションフルーツチョコレートを買ってもらいました。とても美味しかったです！また羊、ヤギ、牛、鶏などたくさんの動物がいました。

湖は思っていたよりもすごく綺麗でした。初めて湖飛び込むことも出来ました！最初は怖かったですが、すごく楽しかったです。ホストシスターの友達とも少し話をすることができ、充実した1日を過ごすことができました。
