From Ireland – Now it’s our great pleasure to share with you all the following final note on her exchange at Dundalk Grammar School in Ireland.  Mizuki Komatsu reflects her exchange student life there in Ireland as follows.

Hello, everyone.  I am Mizuki Komatsu, an exchange student at Dundalk Grammar school in Ireland.  I think this report about my studying abroad will be the final one.  In this report, I’m going to write about my reflection on all of my studying abroad life for these 9 months.

When I am asked to explain my study abroad in a few words, I will tell you “my study abroad seemed to be like a dream.”  It is because the time has passed very quickly and the life in Ireland was completely different  from my real life in Japan.  When I started my exchange program in Ireland, I decided that I would be positive about anything.  But at first, I was concerned that I didn’t do well with my friends because of my poor English language skills. So, I had troubles with my friend. However, I have never forgot to be positive. So, I could make friends who came from many countries. I thought these days were very precious for me and all of my study abroad experience would be a great treasure in my life.  In the end, I would like to express my thanks to various people around me.

When I came here in Ireland I was positive, although I was a little nervous because it was the first experience for me to study abroad.  However, my host family really welcomed me and they were so nice to me. So, I now really appreciate their support.  When I was worried about something, they talked to me kindly and gently. I think I couldn’t spend my time enjoyable without them.  I was so glad because they welcomed me and spending their time with me as one of their family for 9 months.

Additionally, as for my teachers. I was nervous and scary of them at first. But all of my school teachers talked to me very friendly. Thanks to them, I could enjoy school life at Dundalk Grammar school. When I had concerns about something and when I cried, they spoke to me so kindly. I was helped by them. Thank you so much.

Then, I would like to give big thanks to my friends. I could meet friends from many countries. I will never forget them. Whenever my English was so bad, they talked to me so kindly.  I was so happy to get to know them this year. I hope to see them again in Ireland or Japan.

Finally, to my teachers in Japan and my parents, I really appreciate their supporting to me. Through this experience, I could have really good time in Ireland and made good memories which I won’t forget.  I would like to spend one more year left in my high school in Japan without forgetting these experiences.  Everyone who will go to foreign countries for studying abroad, I hope your exchange will be important for you.  Good luck!!

みなさん、こんにちは。アイルランドのダンドーク・グラマー・スクールに留学していた小松美月です。私のアイルランド留学に関するレポートは、これで最後になります。このレポートでは、9ヶ月間の留学生活について振り返りを書いていきたいと思います。

私の留学を一言で表すとすると、「夢のような時間だった」言えます。その理由の１つとしては時間の経過がとても早く感じたことです。私が留学してアイルランドについたときは、比較的ポジティブに何事もとらえて取り組んでいました。しかし少し時間が経つと、周りの英語についていけないという壁にぶつかりました。そして真の友達ができないで悩むこともありました。しかし、積極的な姿勢を忘れずに努力を続けるということは常に意識していました。また私の場合、平日は寮生活であったので、友達と長い間一緒に過ごすことでお互いに打ち解けることができたのだと思います。そしてこの留学を通して、前向きにどんなことがあってもへこたれない精神力、親元から離れたことで問題が起きた際に、自分で判断し解決するという自立心が身についたと思います。９か月間の留学は私の人生にとって、とても大きな財産となりました。最後に、ここの場でたくさんの感謝を伝えたいと思います。

私は留学に対して比較的ポジティブに取り組んでいましたが、初めての経験ということもあり少し緊張していました。そんな中、私のホストファミリーは私のことを歓迎してくれて本当に感謝しています。そして私は彼らなしではアイルランドで充実した生活をすることはできなかったと思います。だからこそ彼らが私を歓迎し、私の家族の一人として接し、9ヶ月間過ごしてくれたことをとても嬉しく思いました。

次に現地での先生方。先生方は、緊張していた私に対してとても優しく声をかけてくださいました。そのお陰もあり、ダンドーク・グラマー・スクールでの学校生活を楽しむことができました。また私が悩んで泣いていたときにも、優しく私の話を聞いてくださり、その時は本当に助けられたと思っています。本当にありがとうございました。

そして、私はアイルランドでの友達に対しても感謝を伝えたいです。私は、現地で様々な国出身の友達を作ることができました。私は彼らのことを決して忘れないと思います。彼らは私の英語が上手ではないとしても親切に話しかけてくれました。私は、この９か月の間に彼らのことを知ることができて本当に良かったです。アイルランドか日本でまた再会したいと思いました。

最後に、日本の先生方と両親。今までたくさんのサポートをしてくださりありがとうございました。この経験を通して、私はアイルランドで充実した時間を過ごすことができ、忘れられない思い出を作ることができました。私はこれらの経験を忘れずに卒業までの残り一年を過ごしたいと思います。
