Now an update report on one of Otsuma Nakano exchange programs in New Zealand reached us to be share with you all.  Mei Hagiwara from New Plymouth let you know her recent Kiwi life!!

Hi! I’m Mei Hagiwara, an exchange student for one year at Sacred Heart Girls College in New Zealand. It is my great pleasure to update my exchange report.  Recently, I am really enjoying my school life. One of my kiwi friends said to me, “you are my best friend”, which made me super happy!

By the way, I am going to talk about what I did last weekend. I did planting and gardening. I planted many kinds of seeds, such as, beetroot, melon, watermelon, tomatoes, celery and so on. My host family has a very huge garden, which is like a farm, so there are already a lot of plants such as apple trees, peach trees, pear trees and so on. I am very excited to grow these fruits. I thought it was a valuable experience because I think I have little opportunity to eat fruits and vegetables that I grow in Japan. The photographs below are avocado and orange from trees in my house.

Next, I am going to talk about my dream in the future. One day, my friends talked about their future dream. All of my kiwi friends have dreams, and they said to me like “I want to be a vet” or “I want to be a doctor”. I was very surprised about that because I had had a dream since I was little, but I gave up it because I had no confidence and I had no idea about my dream and future. But now I have a dream and my plan in the future. It is because my kiwi friends inspired me. They gave me confidence. I think if I stayed in Japan, I would not have the opportunity to think about my dream and future. I am very glad and proud of studying abroad now.  I will try best more about seven months into the future. Thank you for reading my report!

こんにちは！ニュージーランドのセイクレッド・ハート・ガールズ・カレッジに一年留学中の萩原萌衣です。私の留学レポートをアップデートします。最近、学校生活が本当に楽しいです。私のキウイの友達が「あなたは私のベストフレンドよ」と言ってくれてとても嬉しかったです！

では、先週末について話そうと思います。私はプランティングとガーデニングをしました。私はたくさんの種類のタネを植えました。たとえば、ビーツ、メロン、スイカ、トマト、セロリなどです。私のホストファミリーは農場のようなとても広い庭を持っているので、もうすでにりんごの木、ピーチの木、梨の木、などがあります。私はフルーツが実るのがとても楽しみです。日本では自分で育てたフルーツや野菜を食べることは日本では滅多にないので、貴重な体験だなと思いました。下の写真は、私の家の木から採れたアボカドとみかんの写真です。

次に将来の夢について話そうと思います。ある日、私の友達が彼女らの夢について話していました。みんな将来の夢を持っていて、彼女らは、私に「私は獣医になりたい」「私は医者になりたい」などと話していました。私はそれにとても驚きました。何故なら、私は小さい頃から将来の夢がありましたが、自信がないので諦めていて、私の将来の夢のアイディアは何もありませんでした。だけど今は将来の夢や自分のプランがあります。これは私のキウイの友達のおかげです。彼らは私に自信を与えてくれました。もしずっと日本にいたら、将来のことをこんなに考える機会はなかったと思います。今留学をしていて本当に良かったなと思いました。
