Now another Otsuma Nakano student, who has kicked off her exchange school life in America.  Rin Yasuda reports her dramatic start at her high school.  Here we go!

大妻中野では多くの生徒がアメリカでも留学生活を始めました。その一人、ウィスコンシン州の琳さんから、留学生活開始レポートが届きましたので、シェアします。ここまで多くのタフな状況を乗り越えて頑張っています。

Hello, this is Rin Yasuda from Wisconsin, USA.  I am one of the exchange students to study abroad for one year in the US.　It’s my pleasure for me to share my experiences here in Wisconsin with you.

I finally made it to arrive at Exeland, Wisconsin last week.  However, I had some troubles until I arrived.  I was supposed to arrive in US by August 21^st, but unfortunately, my agent couldn’t find a host family by then, so I had a late start. Another one was that my airplane was delayed.  It was supposed to take me about 22 hours to get here, but, in fact, it took me 30 hours. And also I had more troubles, which was that I had 4 gate changes at Chicago airport. That’s horrible!!

Anyhow I am fine now. I went to school the next day to look around the school and choose the subjects I want to study from now on.  Bruce High School is a very small school, and everyone is very friendly, so it is a very comfortable place for me to study. I love my school!  I would like to introduce my bell schedule and my subjects I am taking.  The classes are 60 minutes x 6 periods. My schedules are

1. Team sports
2. Chemistry
3. Ecology
4. Advance Math
5. Criminal Justice
6. Physics

We do difficult studies in each class, but since we have a small group of class, I am able to understand and have fun at each class as well.  Because students choose all the subjects by their own will, we all have good concentration on each class.  I realized that having a small class and choosing your own classes make better class and higher motivation, which will make us focus on study more.

I would like to give it my best try to study at this high school from now on.  Thank you for reading my report!

みなさん、こんにちは。アメリカ、ウィスコンシン州、ブルースハイスクールに留学している安田琳です。一年間みなさんに留学中の経験をレポートできることがとても嬉しいです。

ウィスコンシン州に到着して一週間が経ちました。出発するまでにホストファミリーが決まらない、飛行機が大幅に遅延して22時間で到着するところが、30時間もかかったり、乗り換え中にゲートチェンジが何回もあるなど、たくさんトラブルがありましたが、それを乗り越えて到着することができました。

こちらに到着して、次の日の午後から学校にいき、見学や授業を選択しましました。私が留学するブルースハイスクールは、キンダーガーデンから12年までの生徒が通い、一学年35人程という小さな学校ですが、とても楽しくフレンドリーな学校です。授業は60分6限でクラスは全て移動、ホームルームはありません。私がこちらで選択する科目は次の通りです。

1.  チームスポーツ(チームでやる競技について学習します)
2. 化学(有効数字や物質の純物質と混合物についてなど日本の中学3年生でやる範囲ですが、英語が難しいです)
3. 生態学(環境についての授業で、学校での学習のあと、近くの湖の水質の調査や他の湖などに行き実験をします)
4. 数学(今は復習ですが、様々な関数についてなど、恐らく数1と数2の範囲です。やっていることを理解することは難しくはありませんが、何について聞かれているか理解するのに苦労してます。)
5. 刑事司法(アメリカの刑事司法について学習しています。私がとっている授業のなかで最も難しいですが、日本の違いを比べたりすると面白いです。)
6. 物理(速度について様々な表現方法についてです。私を含め7人という小さなグループレッスンですが、実験やレポートを通して楽しく学習できます。)

それぞれの授業で、難しいことや英語で理解できないこともたくさんありますが、少人数での授業なので、楽しみつつしっかり学習することができます。自分たちで全ての授業を決めるため、一人一人がとても集中して高い意欲で授業に取り込んでいることに私は気づきました。これから、全力でトライしていきます。
