本校では、今年度3名の「トビタテ！留学JAPAN」アカデミック・ロング留学生が、「日本代表」として、アメリカ、フランス、イギリスに留学しています。その一人、イギリスに留学中の村上遥香さんからのトビタテ！留学レポートが届きました。彼女の「エバンジェリスト活動」として、ここに紹介します。

皆さん、こんにちは！イギリスに一年留学中の村上遥香です。今、学校がハーフタームという二週間の休みに入り、イギリスの首都であるロンドンにホームステイしています。ハーフタームは学校全体がお休みのため寮も空いていないため、それぞれ自分の家に帰ったり、ヨーロッパからの留学生の多くは、ドイツやスペインなど自国に帰ったりしています。

今回のレポートでは演劇（私のトビタテ！留学テーマです）に関することと、ロンドンの紹介をしたいと思います。

Hello guys! I’m Haruka Murakami from England.  I am an exchange student for one year studying at a local school in the UK, and also I am one of the Tobitate Young Ambassadors designated by MEXT with scholarship.

Just now, my school started “half term”. The half term is like holidays for two weeks. I do homestay in London during this half term period because the boarding house has been closed.  Most of the British students go back their homes and most of international students from Europe also go back to their countries such as Germany and Spain.

Now in this report, I’ll write about our drama project and share quick introduction of London. Drama is a project topic for my exchange as a Tobitate Young Ambassador.

演劇（Drama）

私は、ハーフタームの前にシェイクスピアの『真夏の夜の夢』の公演に参加しました。私の役は、妖精の女王ティタニアの使いである妖精役でした。

I had an experience to participate in a drama of “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ written by William Shakespeare, where I played a part of a fairy.

練習はお昼休みや放課後、本番の一週間前の日曜日は正午から夕方の六時まであり、本番の二日間は五、六限目の授業を休み、本番が始まるまで練習をしました。

We had rehearsals during school lunch time and after school. A week before a real performance, we had rehearsal from 12 o’ clock to 6 o’clock. What’s more for the whole two days in prior to the performance, we were absent from the class period 5 and 6. And we did much practice before starting the performance.

今回の舞台公演で私は驚いたことが一つあります。それは舞台構成です。最初は舞台で役者たちがお芝居をし、お客さんたちは客席で劇を見るものだと思っていました。それが一般的な舞台構成だからです。しかし、今回の劇は違いました。何が違ったかというと、客席はなく、舞台という舞台もありませんでした。つまり、役者とお客さんとの間に境目がなかったのです。お客さんは好きな場所に立ち、役者たちはそのお客さんの間を動き、演技をします。そうすることによってお客さんの後ろに隠れたり、お客さんにシーンのお手伝いをしてもらったりと、その場にいる全員がその物語の登場人物のように思わせる、そんな舞台構成でした。

I was impressed with many things about the performance. What surprised me the most was a stage composition. I had thought that the actors and actresses would have played their roles of the drama on the stage and that the audience would have watched the performance on their audience seats because it is a regular stage composition in the world.

However, the stage composition of this performance was quite different. The difference was that there was not seats and stage in the theatre. I mean that there was no border between actors and audience. The audience stood anywhere in the theatre as they like and actors played the drama between audience. We, actors, could hide behind the audience and let them participate in the drama and do something, so the all of people in the theatre were like actors. It was a really great stage composition.

今までの私の知ってきた、そして演じてきた舞台構成の固定観念が一気に壊された瞬間でした。『なんでこんなにも面白い舞台構成が思いつくのだろう。こんな舞台構成でお客さんが退屈なわけがない。これは日本で演劇する際にしてみたい！』と思いました。

My stereotype idea and image that I had had about a stage composition and the way I had been playing as a actor was broken by the moment.  Furthermore, the idea which came to my mind was that why they could come up with an interesting stage composition.  “ It must never make the audience feel bored.  I would like to use this drama method in Japan when I create a drama!”

本番、四回ともお客さんの歓声に包まれ幕を無事閉じました。後に友人に聞くと、その公演のチケットは四回とも売り切れだったそうです。終わったあとの何とも言えない達成感と、終わってしまったという虚無感に襲われ、これが私の目指していた演劇の形なのだと改めて実感しました。

The four-time performances were completed with the great cheers and applause from the audience. I heard from a friend of mine that the tickets of the all performance were sold out. I felt sense of accomplishment and emptiness that I can’t express by words when it finished. I could find my goal of Japanese drama. I mean that it would be an ideal shape of the perfect drama for me.

～ロンドン（London）

私は二週間のハーフタイムの滞在中にいろいろなロンドンの観光地を回りました。　その中でも特に気に入った二か所を紹介します。I went to several place during half term in London. I will do introduction of two great places.

～テムズ川（River Thames）& ロンドンアイ（London Eye）～

私はテムズ川沿いとロンドンアイにまず行きました。ロンドンアイに乗り、下を見るとその日は運良く快晴だったので、美しい景色が３６０度広がっていました。改修工事中のビックベンやロンドン橋、タワーブリッジも見ることができました。以下の写真がその時とった写真です。

I went to the riverside areas along the Themes and London Eye.  Of course, I got on London Eye. I could see very beautiful view because it was a perfect sunny day. I could see Big Ben, London bridge and tower of bridge from London Eye.  Look at the following photos.

～ロンドン塔（Tower of London）～

ロンドン塔には昔の拷問器具や貴族の部屋、当時の武器や宝石が多く使われている貴族たちの冠や指輪などがありました。ここで過ごした有名な人物はヘンリー八世とエリザベス一世です。昔、牢獄があった場所には、投獄されていた人たちが自分の名前を書いたあとが保存されていました。

Tower of London is the place showcases lots of old torture instruments, aristocratic rooms, weapons, aristocratic accessories made of jewelry.  The most famous people who lived here were Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.  What’s more, I saw some names which the prisoners had wrote on the walls of the prisons, which was very interesting to me.

Anyhow I was able to enjoy myself and have fun at this half term and learn about English history.  I hope this report would make you feel like coming to England.  If you think so, I will be glad.  Thanks for reading my report!  Cheers!
