From New Zealand, Report from Haruka U. at Sacred Heart Girls College 022020

Hello, everyone. I am Haruka Urayama, an exchange student studying at Sacred Heart Girls College in New Zealand.  It has been three weeks since I came here. In this report, I would like to talk about my four-day holiday and my school life.

Last week, I had four-day weekend ‪from Thursday to Sunday, and I had a really fulfilling weekend.  On the first day, I went to the beach with my friend and my host family. We couldn’t swim because it was too cold and windy, but I enjoyed walking along the beach. Also. we had barbecue for dinner by the beach, and that became a great memory for me.

At that night, I slept over at my friend house. I toasted marshmallows over fire and slept in the tent. I experienced things that I have never experience ever in Tokyo at her house.  On the third day, I climbed up to the mountain with my little host sisters. There was a big waterfall and that was particularly beautiful. It was a little bit hard for me to climb up to the mountain, but I could feel nature there. Thanks to my host family and my friend, I could spend a special time!

Finally, I’d like to share about my school life. This is my second time to go to Sacred Heart because I took part in the two-week program last year. I was so glad to meet my friends at school again! I am having classes I can’t study in Japan such as RST, Design Virtual Communication and Food technology. Also, since my school is Catholic, I can learn about religions. They are hard to understand, but my understanding is getting well because local students next to me always help me. Not everyone accepts international students, but most people are very nice to me. Now, I enjoy my school. I have just about two months left before I leave. I will try my best and go the extra mile to grow as an individual through experience here.

みなさんこんにちは。ニュージーランドのセイクリッドハートガールズカレッジに留学している浦山遥花です。ここに来てから3週間が経ちました。このレポートでは私の4連休と学校での生活について紹介したいと思います。

先週、木曜から日曜まで4日間の連休があり、私はとても充実した連休を過ごしました。初日は、私の友達とホストファミリーでビーチに行きました。とても寒く、風も強かったので泳ぐことはできませんでしたが、私は海沿いを歩いてビーチを楽しみました。また、夕食にやった海辺でのBBQは私にとって素晴らしい思い出になりました。

その夜、私は友達の家に泊まりました。焼きマシュマロをしたり、テントで寝たりしました。私は友達の家で東京ではできない経験をすることができました。

土曜日はホストシスターと山登りをしました。大きな滝があり、とくに綺麗でした。登るのは少し大変でしたが、そこでニュージーランドの自然の豊かさを感じました。ホストファミリーと友達のおかげで、私は特別な時間を過ごすことができました！

最後に私の学校生活について伝えようと思います。私は昨年の2週間プログラムに参加したのでセイクリッドハートに通うのは2回目になります。私は学校で友達にもう一度会うことができてとても嬉しかったです。私は、RSTやデザインバーチュアルコミュニケーション、フードテクノロジーなど日本では学べない授業を取っています。また、私の学校はカトリックの学校なので、宗教について学ぶこともできます。授業は理解するのに大変ですが、私の隣の座ってる現地の子がいつも助けてくれるので、だんだん理解できるようになってきました。現地の子みんなが留学生を受け入れてくれるわけではないですが、ほとんどの人は私にとても優しく接してくれます。いま私は楽しく学校に通えています！

日本に帰るまで残り約2ヶ月になりました。自分自身が成長できるように、私はベストを尽くして精一杯頑張りたいと思います。
