From the UK – Tobitate！Young Ambassadors – Haruka Murakami

Hello, everyone!　I’m Haruka Murakami from Giggleswick in England.  I am an exchange student for one year studying at a local school in the UK, and also I am one of the Tobitate Young Ambassadors designated by MEXT with scholarship.  My mission as one of the Tobitate Young Ambassadors is to be a change maker of drama.  I have been proceeding with my drama study in the UK.  5 months have been over since I came to England.  Time has been passing very quickly without realising.  I haven’t learned about drama in January actually, so, I’m going to tell you about the rock concert and British culture in this Tobiate report.

We had a rock concert in my school. A lot of people who are good at singing and playing the instruments performed in the concert. The concert was hold in the theatre, but it was different from what it is like as a theatre we know.  It made me look like a great rock live venue.

The two girls of the same year as I joined the concert singing there. They were very good singers. One of them was my roommate for the last term. She always sings even she is in her dream. Everyone knows she is a good singer, also she is pretty confident in way she sings and playing drama. I think all European have some confidence in their own ways and lives.  One from Germany has much confident in ways he speaks English, and another from Spain has confident in way she creates motion pictures for TikTok. And nobody denies what they like to do. Everybody acknowledges each other regarding what they like to do.  It’s fantastic culture. I really like it. I’ve never seen somebody denies what others like to do.

I’m usually told that the most important thing is to respect others in order to build good human relationships. I have 3 roommates now. If I’m in trouble with them, we have to solve problems by respecting each other.  Everyone knows it and we must not forget to respect other people every time. Even if you have a person who you hate, you have to respect the person every time.  However, I’ve never been told that I should like everyone and must not hate someone.  Teachers told me that it’s very difficult to like everyone ,so you don’t have to try to like everyone, but don’t forget to respect them.

What do you think of culture?  Is it good or annoying?  The answer should not be told by others, but it should be in your heart.  It is up to you!!

I have learned a lot of important things and realised very good British cultures in January.

皆さん、こんにちは。トビタテ!留学JAPAN、日本代表プログラム・アカデミックロング第5期生の村上遥香です。　私は、トビタテ！生として、イギリスの現地校で留学しています。留学を開始して、５か月があっという間に過ぎ、あと残すところ半年になりました。私のトビタテ！生としてのプロジェクトは、演劇を極めること。しかし、実は一月はなかなか演劇に関した出来事にかかわらなかったので、演劇に近いという意味で、ロックコンサートとイギリスの文化についたお話したいと思います。

学校では、ロックコンサートのイベントがあり、歌がうまい人やバンドを組んでいる様々な学年の人たちがそのコンサートで演奏を披露しました。会場はいつも演劇で使われている劇場でしたが、雰囲気はまったく違い、劇場というよりはしっかりとしたライブ会場のようでした。

私と同じ学年からは二人の女の子が歌を披露しました。二人とも本当の歌手のようでした。その内の一人は前学期の私のルームメイトで彼女は夢の中でも歌を歌うくらい歌うことが大好きで、とても歌がうまいです。みんな彼女の歌が素晴らしいことは知っており、彼女自身も前に私に「私は歌と演劇には自信があるのよ。」と教えてくれたくらい、自分の歌唱力と演技力に自信を持っています。私はこの５か月の間、いろいろなヨーロッパの人と過ごし、ほとんどのヨーロッパの人は自分自身に何かしらの自信があります。例えば一人のドイツ人の男の子は英語がとてもうまく、彼も英語を話すときは自信満々に話し、間違えることを恐れていません。一人のスペイン人の女の子はTikTokというソーシャルメディアの動画の取り方に自信があり、部屋でよく踊っており、「遥香もどう？」とよく誘ってくれます。

誰も他人の好きなことは否定せず、みんなそれぞれの好きなことを認め合っています。それはとても素晴らしく、私自身がとても好きなイギリスの一つの文化です。私は誰かが他人の趣味を否定したり、悪く言ったりしているところを見たことがありません。

私は普段、いい人間関係を気づき上げるには、尊敬が一番大切だと教わります。私には今、３人のルームメイトがおり、もしルームメイトの中でトラブルが起きたら、それぞれを尊重し合いながら問題を解決しなくてはなりません。みんなそれを知っていて、絶対に他人を尊重することを忘れてはいけません。たとえ嫌いな人がいても、その人への尊重も必要不可欠なものです。しかし、私は「みんなを好きになりなさい、誰も嫌いになってはいけない」と教わったことはありません。先生は私に「全員を好きになるのは難しいから、全員好きになれなんて言わないし、嫌いな人がいてもそれは悪いことではないわ。でも、尊重は忘れちゃだめよ。」と教えてくれました。

この文化について皆さんはどう思いますか？いい文化と思いますか？それとも、少し面倒な文化でしょうか？答えは誰かが教えてくれるものではありません。私たち一人一人の中に答えがあります。１月は多くの大切なことを学び、イギリスの素晴らしい文化に気づけた月でした。
