Even though the world as well as Japan sees unprecedented tough time, anyone celebrate Happy Christmas and New Year!  We are grateful and proud to share another Happy Year Note  reaching us from Dublin, Ireland.  K.M. an international exchange student studying at Sutton Park Grammar School, reports to us about her recent intriguing experiences at Christmas and New Year.  Here we go!

Happy new year everyone! I’m K.M. and I’m an international exchange student studying at Sutton Park School in Dublin, Ireland. It’s my great pleasure if you could read the following report to the end.

Ireland is into the lockdown, and the level of lockdown is getting higher and strict. The number of people who are coronavirus infected is almost eight thousand in some recent days.  So I can only move for 5km from my house. And the Irish government announced that schools should remain closed until the end of January due to current situation with COVID-19 in Ireland. But my school will be opening remotely from 11th January. This is not the news I had hoped for, but I will do my best in remote class.

Next, I will tell you about Christmas and New year in Ireland.

In Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner, my host mother makes special dinner such as turkey, ham, roast potatoes with gravy and cranberry sauce. And finally, I had hazelnuts cake. It was wonderful meal.

In the morning of the Christmas Day, I received some presents such as skin and body care things and snacks. I was very happy cause I can’t receive a present after I don’t believe about Santa. Also, my host sister received Nintendo Switch from her parents, so my host sister and I enjoyed playing some games together and had greatly fun time.

In the late at night of New Year’s Eve, I had snacks and sausages during I’ve watched a TV with my host family. And then we celebrated the new year. Also, I talked a lot with my host sister in midnight of the New year. I was pretty enjoyed.

Finally, I heard that Japan is getting terrible situation due to COVID-19, so please take care of your health.

皆さん、新年あけましておめでとうございます！今年もよろしくお願い致します。私は現在、アイルランド、ダブリンにあるサットンパークスクールに1年留学中のK.M.です。今回のレポートも最後まで読んでいただけると嬉しいです。

今、アイルランドはロックダウンの状態にあり、そのレベルはますます厳しくなっています。 最近では、コロナウイルスに感染する人が、1日多くて8千人近くいるので、とても危険であるのが現状です。なので、必要不可欠でない外出の場合、家から5kmしか移動できません。 また、アイルランド政府は、アイルランドでのコロナウイルスの現状により、学校は1月末まで閉鎖されたままであると発表しました。 しかし、私の学校は1月11日からリモートという形で再開します。これは非常に残念なことですが、これから普段の学校生活と程遠くなったとしても、わたしの最善を尽くしたいと思っています。

次に、アイルランドのクリスマスと新年についてお話します。

クリスマスイブとクリスマスのディナーでは、ホストマザーが、七面鳥、ハム、ローストポテトなどの特別なディナーを作ってくれました。 グレイビーやクランベリーのソースと共に食べましたが、とても美味しかったです。そして最後には、ヘーゼルナッツケーキを食べました。 想像以上に豪華で素敵なクリスマスでした。

そしてクリスマスの朝、クリスマスツリーにはたくさんのプレゼントが置いてあり、私は、スキンケアやボディケア用品、さまざまなお菓子などのプレゼントをいただきました。 サンタさんを信じなくなって以来、私の兄弟はプレゼントを受け取っていましたが、私のもとにはなぜか来なくなってしまったので、とても嬉しかったです。また、ホストシスターは彼女の両親からNintendo Switchをもらったので、最近では、よくホストシスターと一緒にゲームをして楽しんでいます。

そして、大晦日の夜、私は、ホストファミリーと共にテレビで音楽番組を見ながら、お菓子やソーセージを食べて、去年の最後の日を満喫しました。 そして、私たちは新年を楽しく盛大に祝いました。 また、年が明けてから、夜更かしをして、ホストシスターと一緒にたくさんお話をしました。とても楽しかったです。

最後に、日本でも現在、コロナによる非常に深刻な状態が続いていると思います。くれぐれも健康には気をつけてお過ごしください。
