From Ireland & Canada – Updated Reports on Studies Abroad Programs

Report 1 from Dublin, Ireland,

Hello everyone! I’m K.M. and I’m an international exchange student studying at Sutton Park School in Dublin, Ireland. It’s my great pleasure if you could read the following report at the end.

I’m on Easter break from 27th of March until 11th of April. Finally, I’m going to back to school for the first time in 3 months. I look forward to seeing my friends.

I’ll talk about some of my work experiences. I had a mock interview in 9th of March. Mock interview is a part of work experience which associated by Irish transitional year program for TY (transition year) students. TY means to be the first grade of senior high school. The interview has separated by 2 parts. Part one is the mock interview which I pretended to apply for the customer service job. My interviewer also pretended to work for the supermarket SuperValu, and asked me questions about some customer service jobs.  In part two, I had the chance to ask my interviewer some questions about her real-life job.

Before this interview, I did prepare something for this interview. I researched SuperValu such as their characteristics and details. In addition, I prepared the answers to several expected questions. Also, I researched my interviewer’s real-life job, financial service.

I felt nervous until just before the interview because I didn’t ever take a mock interview, and besides I can’t speak English fluently. But, actually I could take the interview comfortably. My interviewer was so kind and friendly, then she heard my poor English well. I could answer the question from her, and I could communicate with her so I could have confidence after interview.

I didn’t have interest in any jobs except for medical jobs, but I had such a good experience to know financial service job. I thought our attitude is an important in my impression of the interview. So, I was careful of my attitude such as keeping smile and taking properly posture. I spent a meaningful time on the interview.

皆さんこんにちは！私は現在、アイルランド、ダブリンにあるサットンパークスクールに1年留学中のK.M.です。今回のレポートも、最後まで読んでいただけると嬉しいです。

私は今、3月27日から4月11日までイースター休暇中です。 4月12日からいよいよ3ヶ月ぶりに学校に通えます。 久々に友達と会うのが待ち遠しいです。

今回は、私の職業体験の一部についてお話します。  3月9日に、私は模擬面接というものをしました。模擬面接は、トランジションイヤーの学生のためにある、アイルランドのTYプログラムに関連する職業体験の一部です。  TYは日本でいう高校1年生です。 そのインタビューは2部に分かれていました。パート1では、カスタマーサービスの仕事に応募するふりをした模擬面接です。 私の面接官はスーパーマーケットのスーパーバリューで働いているふりをして、カスタマーサービスの仕事について質問してきました。 パート2では、面接官の実際にしている仕事について質問しました。

このインタビューの前に、私はいくつかの準備をしました。  SuperValuの特徴や詳細などをネットで調べました。 また、面接官に聞かれるであろういくつかの質問への回答も、スムーズに答えられるよう考えました。 また、面接官の実際の仕事である金融サービスについても調べました。

私は就職活動のときに行う面接などは今まで経験したことがなかったうえに、英語もネイティブのようにしゃべれるわけではないので、少し緊張していました。  でも実際の面接は落ち着いて受けることができました。 私の面接官はとても親切でフレンドリーでした。そして、面接官は私のつたない英語もしっかり聞いてくれました。 思ったよりもスムーズに質問に答えることができ、面接官としっかりコミュニケーションをとることができたので、面接後には、自分の英語に対する自信が得られたような気がします。

私は、今まで医療以外の仕事にはあまり興味がありませんでしたが、金融サービスの仕事を知る良い経験ができました。 そして何より面接の第一印象では、笑顔や正しい姿勢、声を明るくはっきりすることなどが、重要な部分だと思いました。 とても有意義な時間を過ごせました。

Hello, I’m J. O., studying abroad at Byrne Creek Community School in Canada. I will talk about what happened to me this March.  The start of daylight-saving was March 14th. I’m looking forward to getting warm.

I did volunteer of Leo club’s community cleaning up on March 13th Saturday. I cleaned parks and roads. There was a lot of garbage, so it was dirty.  We worked it for about 2 hours. After that the teacher bought us ice cream. We were tired, so it was even more delicious.

This day was my host brother’s birthday, so I gave him a gift. I was happy to see he liked it.

Also, there was a spring break in March. I did a lot of things during this spring break. I went to many places with my friends and my host family. I played badminton with my friends. It was windy, but I had a fun time. My host family bought bicycles, so I used it. I rode a bicycle for the first time in Canada.  I went to see the cherry blossoms with my host family in the latter half of spring break. It was very beautiful. I had a good spring break!

The number of people who are infected with COVID-19 is going up in Canada, but I will make good memories in the remaining 3 months. Thank you for reading.

こんにちは！カナダのByrne Creek Community School に留学中のJ.O.です。　私のレポートでは、3月の出来事についてお話しします。3月14日からサマータイムが始まりました。私は暖かくなるのが楽しみです。

13日の土曜日に私はコミュニティクリーンアップのボランティアに参加しました。公園や道路などを掃除しました。そこにはゴミがたくさん落ちていてとても汚かったです。私たちは2時間ほど掃除をしました。そのあと、付き添いの先生が私たちにアイスクリームを買ってくれました。とても疲れていたのでより一層おいしく感じました。

また、この日はホストブラザーのお誕生日だったのでプレゼントを渡しました。喜んでもらえてよかったです。

3月には春休みがありました。春休み中に私はたくさんのことをしました。いろいろな場所に友達や、ホストファミリーと出かけました。友達とはバドミントンもしました。風が強かったですが楽しかったです。この期間にホストファミリーがいくつか自転車を買ったので自転車にも乗りました。カナダに来てからは初めて乗りました。 春休み後半には、ホストファミリーと一緒に桜を見に行きました。とてもきれいでした。楽しい春休みが過ごせてよかったです。

カナダではコロナ・ウイルスの感染者が増えてきていますが、残り3か月も楽しい思い出を作ります！読んでいただきありがとうございました。
