Beyond School Challenge – 立教大学GLAP – Trial Lesson にチャレンジ！

本校は「Beyond School – 学校を越えた」様々なプログラムへのチャレンジを積極的に支援しています。そうしたチャレンジでは大学と連携した様々な発展的な学びの機会がたくさんあります。　本校の夏休みは Beyond School でいっぱいです。

この発展的な学びのチャンスの1つとして、立教大学 Global Liberal Arts Program GLAP が主催した Trial Lesson へのチャレンジした3名の生徒からのレポートが届きました。このプログラムは、立教大学GLAPに進学実績のある高等学校への参加招待を頂いたものです。

GLAPトライアル授業のトピックは、「ロシアのウクライナ侵攻から、今後の国連の安保理事会の在り方」。本校が参加した第3回ユネスコスクール関東ブロック大会での国際問題と同様のタイムリーなトピックに、すべて英語でディスカッションを行いました。例えば、拒否権を無くして安保理も多数決にするべきか、否か、というアジェンダなどにそれぞれ意見を交わしました。

本校では、英語ディベートチームやING(模擬国連)など、英語でのディスカッションを行う機会もたくさんあります。そうした場で磨いたスキルを試す絶好の機会となりました。また、立教大学GLAPの特徴もよくわかり、進路を考える上でも貴重なチャンスとなりました。

Otsuma Nakano actively supports “Beyond School” challenges in a variety of programs.　Such challenges provide many opportunities for developmental learning in collaboration with universities.　Summer vacation is filled with such Beyond Schools.

As one of such developmental learning opportunities, we have received reports from three students who participated in the Trial Lesson organized by GLAP, Rikkyo University’s Global Liberal Arts Program.

The topic of the GLAP Trial Lesson was ” Russia’s invasion to Ukraine and the future of the UN Security Council.”　The discussion was conducted entirely in English on the same timely topic as the international issues at the 3rd UNESCO School Kanto Block Conference, in which our school participated.

At Otsuma Nakano, we have many opportunities to hold discussions in English, such as English Debate Team and ING (Model United Nations). This was an excellent opportunity for the students to test the skills they have honed in such settings.　It was also a valuable opportunity for me to understand the features of Rikkyo University GLAP and to think about my future career path.

私は、7月末に立教大学のグローバル・リベラル・アーツ・プログラム（GLAP）が主催した「Trial Lesson – 体験授業」にチャレンジすることができました。ここでは、本プログラムのガイダンス、GLAPの1年生の必修科目であるチュートリアルの体験授業、GLAPの学生との交流会の３つのセッションがありました。

私は高校3年生ですが、大学を選ぶ際に自分が重要視している「大学の雰囲気」を感じるため、そしてGLAPのプログラムが何を提供してくれるかをより深く理解するためにこのプログラムにチャレンジしました。ウクライナ問題と国連のあり方についての英語ディスカッションやチュートリアルの授業で、自分が考えてもいなかった意見を聞くことができ、テーマに対する視野を広げることができました。また、少人数制のグループだったため、グループのメンバーとのつながりが強く、短い時間で新しい友人を作ることができました。

今回のプログラムに参加したことで、GLAPの特徴をさらに知ることができ、大学受験の準備に役立てることができると思います。やはり大学を選ぶ上で雰囲気はとても大事になってくると思います。オープンキャンパスとは違ってこうした大学の授業に直接、参加することは、普段の大学生活を一番よく表していると私は思っているので、後輩の皆さんには、大学を検討する際に多くの授業を直接体験する機会にチャレンジしてほしいとアドバイスをしたいと思います。

This time I participated in a “Trial Lesson” facilitated by Rikkyo University’s Global Liberal Arts Program (GLAP) on July 30th. The program consisted of a guidance of this program, a trial lesson of a tutorial class (a mandatory class for 1st year students at GLAP) and an interaction session with the students of GLAP.

Despite being a 3rd year high school student, I decided to participate in this program to understand what GLAP offers and experience the atmosphere of the school, as it will be a crucial aspect when selecting universities. The discussion on the current topic of “Ukraine Crisis and the United Nations” was highly insightful.  Along with that, personally, I was able to learn about other opinions from my peers and broaden my perspectives towards the topic of the tutorial class. In addition, the small groups allowed me to have a strong connection with the group members and I was able to create new friends in such a short period of time.

What I gained from this program will specifically help me prepare for university applications as there were multiple traits about GLAP that I could understand, because of this participation. I highly recommend younger high school students to participate in trial classes when considering university, since they show the true colors of the university in the best way. 　　－　Y. T.

It was my great pleasure for me to participate in the program by Rikkyo University GLAP Trial Lesson. In this opportunity, I was able to experience the ”real” lesson in GLAP.  We participants discussed with students from high schools and GLAP students, which made me feel excited.

What I learned from the participation is that speaking up is not a scary thing.  I usually don’t speak much in my school just because I always feel it is embarrassing to speak out in front of others. However, in this GLAP class, each student constantly talked frankly about their opinions, which helped me feel  as if I can say anything in my mind.

I want to navigate my future with what I leaned in this precious chance in GLAP.  I strongly believe that this opportunity is and will be helpful for me.  From now on, I will feel it would be easier to express myself in any situation than before, which will support me in the future as well.  =R. 私は、立教大学のプログラムである Global Liberal Arts Program(GLAP)のTrial Lesson チュートリアルという授業を実際に体験しました。どのようにしたら問題を解決できるのか、そして自分たちには何が出来るのかを考える力、自分の意見を相手に伝えるために自発的に、しかも英語で発言する力、違う考えの人を受け入れる力、様々な力が養われたことを実感しました。

その中でも特に自分とは考え方の異なる人たちと英語でディスカッションし、自分では想像していなかったような意見や考え方に触れ、型にはまらず柔軟に考えるという感覚がこの短時間でも少し掴めた気がしました。人数が多ければその分考え方も増えるということが理解でき、さらにGLAPで必修である1年間の留学で、国内に留まらず国外へ行き、発想や考え方を広げられるというところに魅力を感じました。

このプログラムは、GLAPの先輩方や他校の同年代の生徒の方々と話すことができ、刺激を受ける貴重な経験になりました。 GLAPの皆さんに感謝しています。ありがとうございました。

I experienced the tutorial class of Rikkyo University’s excellent program called Global Liberal Arts Program(GLAP). Through this trial lesson, I realized that various abilities are cultivated, such as the ability to think how we can solve the problem and what we can do, the ability to speak up your own opinion proactively in English, and the ability to accept people who think differently.

In particular, I had discussions in English with people who have different ways of thinking from my own, and get various points of view, by encountering new opinions and ways of thinking that I had never imagined. This led me to think outside of the box, without fitting into the mold. I was able to understand that the more people there are, the more ideas will appear, and I was fascinated by the fact that the one-year study abroad program, which is compulsory for GLAP, allows us to go beyond Japan and go abroad to broaden your perspectives.

To sum up, it was valuable and stimulating to experience this lesson, and talk with GLAP seniors and students of my age, and I appreciate having this opportunity.  Millions of thanks to the GLAP students for giving us such great time.
