I was very impressed with all the participants at the Model United Nations event facilitated by Otsuma Chiyoda high school. The conference was attended by many kinds of schools and students which allowed for diverse ideas to be shared. Though they were acting as adult diplomats resolving issues; it gave me a glimpse of how their generation saw the world and our problems.
It was interesting to listen to how they resolved things differently from my generation’s views, and those before mine as well. What I saw was highly informative in understanding students better, and I want to use what the participating students taught me in the future as a teacher.

I had the pleasure of seeing the students on the second day of the competition. They arrived energetic and ready to finish strong. It was great to see them participate in something while thinking about their future. I am sure they learned a great deal about the issues at the conference and their own future.
While Model UN is an exercise in international affairs, one of the core aspects of this activity and international institutions is making connections. Our students engaged with others in conversation not only during the competition but afterwards as well. Seeing them make those sorts of connections is what I consider to be the greatest feat of all.

This is the second time I have participated in a Model United Nations. The last Model United Nation was smaller in scale than this one, and since many of the participants were beginners for MUNs, the pace of the meetings was slower than this MUNs. I had been so nervous the first time that I could not speak out much except for my country’s policies. Therefore, I participated in the Otsuma Model United Nations with the high motivation to speak up more.
From this Model United Nations, I learned the importance of looking at things from many different perspectives. Because there are so many countries, it is important to come up with policies that are better for all of them. From now on, I would like to always be aware of diversity and the need to look at things from various perspectives, and I would like to make use of this awareness in my school assignments and university entrance exams for the coming future. Thanks for all who supported me!

I was participated in the MUNs (Model United Nations) in Otsuma University. Tt was my first time to join a MUNs conference. The topic of this conference was how to prepare for disasters and resilience. I had no idea what I had to do to prepare for this MUNs because this was the first for me, so I regretted that I had collected superficial information about the topic.
The reason why I decided to join this MUNs because I would like to enhance and improve my English skill which I cultivated when I studies abroad in Canada. I learned numerous things from the participation in the MUNs this time. First of all, the speed and pace of the meeting was so quick that discussions in the MUNS made me feel like I was attending a real United Nations meeting. I was so surprised at the conference because many students in the grade below me discussed each other on behalf of the country as its delegate and announced their country’s disaster prevention policies. Also, they created their own resolutions considering of people such as LGBTQ and Muslim people. Furthermore, I was very impressed by the fact that the discussion was based on a clear understanding that which international organizations have which roles and therefore what is needed in the current situation.
Secondly, these students’ English proficiency was so high. For example, we created some resolutions in English, also the speeches were held in English. They were humorous and referred to the current situation in each country. It made me realize that there is a wall in my way that cannot be crossed, even when studying abroad.
Based on this, I think that, as well as improving my English, I need to pay more attention to the current situations in the world today and how we all should give our best try to change them. Disaster preparedness is a very big issue in the real world. I felt that it was difficult to raise disaster preparedness on a global scale now that I am a high school student. However, I felt that I could do something to raise disaster awareness among high school students.
