セント・アンドリュース・セミナー　　１２日目

８月４日（月）

　今日は、曇り時々晴れ。朝も暖かく、日中の気温は27度と暑いぐらい。かなり湿度も出てきて日本の気候に近い感じです。これまでのとてもドライな澄み切った青空とは違います。一つの節目なんですね。

　いよいよこの研修も最終日を迎えました。今日は学校で授業を受けたあと、それぞれの家庭に戻りました。その後、サヨナラ・パーティの会場であるレイク・プラシッドのカフェに集合です。このパーティには、セント・アンドリュースのロレッタ・グラハム校長先生、教務主任のブラッド・グリーン先生、日本語科の森本先生などのセント・アンドリュースの先生方とホスト・ファミリーの方々、ホスト・スチューデント、コーディネイターの笠原氏を始め、SPCの関係者の方、KNT近畿日本ツーリストの外山氏、本校と同じく、こちらケアンズの学校で研修を行っている東京の田園調布学園中学・高等学校の先生方、この本校の研修に関心を持ってくださっている鹿児島、神村学園の神村校長先生などをお招きして行われました。かなりの規模のパーティです。私たちにとっては、まさにビッグ・ナイトです。

　パーティ会場はイルミネーションに彩られ、オープンカフェで野趣あふれるいかにもケアンズらしい素晴らしい会場です。私も感謝の気持ちを込めてスピーチさせていただきました。本校の生徒代表の感謝のスピーチと合唱。セント・アンドリュースの生徒代表の英語と日本語の心温まるスピーチ、そしてロレッタ校長先生からの素晴らしい本校生徒へのお褒めのスピーチをいただきました。校長先生は数学の授業も担当されていて、この期間、校長先生自ら、本校生徒に教えていただきました。「皆さん、すごくよく数学に取り組んでいたわ。」皆、最後の夜を感動の中で過ごすことができました。ホスト・ファミリーの方々の暖かい表情も忘れられません。このパーティの素晴らしさは、言葉では表現するのが難しいぐらい感動的なものでした。この夜のこのパーティは本当に一生の宝物になると思います。

　この研修のために、こういった様々な人たちが準備を重ねてきました。そして研修中も様々に皆さんのケアに心を砕いてきました。その苦労は実は大変なものなのです。こうした関係者の方に、この場で心から感謝したいと思います。

　ここに紹介した関係者の皆様には、大妻中野の国際交流への取り組みの趣旨をよく理解していただき、そのためにご尽力いただきました。セント・アンドリュース・カソリック・カレッジと本校の交流は、これが正に出発点だと思っています。今後は、セント・アンドリュースの生徒の皆さんにできるだけ多くの機会に、本校に来ていただき、一緒に学ぶことができればと思っています。

また、今回のこのセント・アンドリュース・セミナーの内容と趣旨を理解していただき、生徒の皆さんを送り出していただいた本校の保護者の方々にも感謝いたします。また、この研修レポートをお読みになってくださった方々にも、感謝申し上げます。本校の取り組みの一端をご理解いただき、関心を持ってもらえたならば、これに勝る喜びはありません。

サヨナラ・パーティでのスピーチを紹介して、この研修レポートの最後の締めくくりとします。

St Andrews Seminar   Sayonara Party Address on August 4^{th, 2008}

Good evening.

On behalf of Otsuna Nakano, I would like to express our gratitude. It is my great pleasure to have an opportunity to make thank you speech in this wonderful Sayonara Party.

First of all, I would like to show our sincere respect and gratitude to St Andrews principal, Ms Lauretta Graham, and Head of Senior School, Mr. Brad Greene for giving us the chance to visit St. Andrews. And I want to say thank you from the bottom of our heart to Ms. Sue Hulme, Ms. Kayley Young, Ms. Masumi Morimoto and other St. Andrews Staff for taking special care of our students.

And again I want to say thank you to hosting parents and sisters. Thanks to your help and hospitality, our Japanese Students can spend wonderful time here. And I want to show our special thanks to Mr. Taka Kasahara and staff members from San Pacific College. We really appreciate your efforts.

Our school, Otsuma Nakano is located in Tokyo. The population of Tokyo is more than 10 million. So, the streets are very busy and our school is situated in the very small and limited area. It is quite different from fantastic St. Andrews school area. Everything here is pretty amazing. So the students staying here for 2 weeks have had really precious experience we have never had in Tokyo. Some students say the beauty of the night sky with so many stars even shooting stars is beyond description. It’s incredible. That might be the first time to see the real night sky in her whole life. But I think Tokyo is also quite interesting and exciting place. If you have chance to come to Japan, please come to Tokyo and visit our school. We will welcome you to our school.

Of course, the most valuable experience is to communicate with hosting parents and sisters. Sometimes there might be difficulty in communicating with each other. But We can get over it. Such experience will make us understand each other.

Well now, we are in mixed emotion. We are very happy because we have known each other, But at the same time, we are very sad because we have to say good by to you.

We are going back to Japan tomorrow. That’s why this party is called Sayonara Party. But I think this naming Sayonara might not be good for us, because sayonara means farewell, good bye. I think this is not the time to say good bye, but this is the very beginning of our beautiful friendship.

We left our heart in Cairns. So we’ve got to come back here to take our heart once again someday. This wonderful experience we have had here with you will remain in our memory forever.
